Just bought it. For some reason I opted for the Xbox version over the PS3 version. Must be the achievements.
Also got this badass display box when I asked the guy at Gamestop what they do when they're done with it.

This thread will be for discussion of the game, and my thoughts as I progress through it.
*First of all: The graphics are beautiful.
*THE BLACK GUY HAS A BABY CHOCOBO IN HIS AFRO. AWESOME.
*I can only control the girl in battle? Lame.
*Shop at save points? Dislike.
SAVE POINTS IN FF: SOON TO BECOME YOUR ONE STOP FOR EVERYTHING IN THE GAME THAT ISN'T THE ACTUAL COMBAT
But neat. Wait, you can only control lightning? That's pretty intercourse ing stupid. That better be something temporary or so.
I guess my thread is obsolete now. ;_;
Anyway, haven't gotten it yet. My brother is saying he'll get it eventually, but I'm too impatient to wait that long.
Gonna get it tomorrow. Im getting the Xbox version.
Sazh kicks ass
Hope is a vagina-y
Valierre (or whatever) is obvious final boss/sacrifice
Lightning is annoying
Snow is a good character. I actually like him.
Don't have Fang yet.
Pretty good so far though.
I fell asleep.
People turning into Crystals or Monsters
= Boring.
Vanille is hot. I would intercourse the everloving poop out of her.
I bought it today on 360. I can't play it due to not having an Xbox.

Got my first game over against Anima.
Only Lightning died.
Fucking gay.

You just got to Anima?
Must have had a good nap. Relatively easy boss. Wait until you hit the next one. It is almost required that you equip Lightning with some HP boosters or she will get one shot'd. First and only time I've died yet.
I actually really like the Crystal level up system. I'm in there after about 3 battles on the dot. Little stuff like that makes me so happy.

I have no CP. :(
So I've got about 4 hours total play time now, and I'm at just after when
Lightning leaves Hope behind, and Sazh and Vanille find him.
My current thoughts:
I still dislike how you only control one person, and can't change which is the leader. The best thing I can compare this to is Kingdom Hearts. Consider the leader Sora and the other two Goofy and Donald.
The game is entirely too linear, though I knew it was coming from previews. Meh. There's literally no exploring. Just follow the path to the next event.
I'm not making nearly enough gil from anything for the Shop to be useful. Am I supposed to save "Components" for later or are they just poop to sell?
Vanille is still really hot, but is getting annoying.
Hope is a little whiny ninny.
Sazh is intercourse ing badass.
Lightning is a mean vagina.
I'm getting used to the Paradigm system, and found a few I like already. Smart Bomb (Ravager, Saboteur, Ravager), then a switch to Tri-Disaster (Ravager x3) makes for a quick fight.
I'm not getting since I don't own any of the systems, but I'm going to watch videos in Youtube.
Also, you should call Sazh "Chocofro". :D
Meh. Disk two. Lightning and Hope are both getting better. Snow can survive bullets but not a little judo chop to the neck. Sazh is still amazing and badass. Vanille is still a wierdo.
Battle is getting really fun now that I have summons. Gestault mode (or whatever) is stupid but I like the summons period. I actually am a fan of Smart Bomb as well.
Lightning is irrational and..really annoying. Still, she's cool in her own way I guess.
Hope is a vagina-y.
Snow and Sazh are motherintercourse ing badasses
Fang is alright, still not sure about her.
and Vanille is the typical annoying girl in a JRPG.
I'm pretty sure you can change leaders later, because I've seen footage of the game where you control other characters with Lightning in the party.
Just got to disc two. Thoroughly disappointed with how short the disc felt.
I remember back in the day, a full disc took forever to finish.
I digress.
Hope and Lightning are indeed getting better.
Vanille is coming off
as a scared little girl behind a cheery mask.
But I'd still intercourse her.
Snow has so much CP built up he's gonna explode when I get to control him again.
No sign of Fang, yet.
I don't like the Gestault mode too much.
I don't like that I STILL can't change my darn leader.
I'm glad I saved all my components, 'cause I've got Lightning's sword up to level 11 and it rapes.
The only characters that seem likable to me are Sazh and Hope. 2/6 is far better than 0/6.
And wow, disc two was that short? It's that linear? I mean I've heard of linear but bahaha

About 6 or 7 hours of gameplay, I think? I'll check later to be certain.

I hope so. I'm well in on disk 2 and it looks like it's going to be longer.
Also, Snow is going to explode with all the CP. Rob is right about that. Get ready to have fun with him.
EDIT: GOD DAMN IT! The game puts and enemy ahead of me they say 'might' be too tough. THEN THEY PLACE A SAVE POINT NEXT TO ME! IT'S TAUNTING!!!! DIE BEAST...
Oh wow, that was easy
So I just got the Shiva Sisters(school is slowing me down with this game, to even play it I've been taking it to my gf's house), and Snow already has 1000 CP that I can't even freaking use.
From what you guys are saying I won't get him until waaayy later. Ugh figures that one of my favorite characters is gone half the game.

Prepare for him to have around 20,000 when you get him back on disk 2. Have fun with that :D
I did grind a bit though...
Oh I shall.
Thank god the game hasn't taken away Sazh. -knocks on wood-
I bought it yesterday. Pretty good so far. My only big complaints so far are that it seems very linear and I can't swap characters around yet. I've yet to dig deep in this game though, so...yeah.
...why do I get so excited whenever I get CP?
Linearity. Again, why is that a bad thing?
Every Mario game ever is linear. Every Sonic game ever is linear. Every Mega Man game ever is linear. Big deal.
When it comes to linearity, you must understand what it even is in the first place. Ever since this game came out in japan people have been throwing that word around without even understanding what the hell it is.
Linearity is defined as simply this: "Point A, to point B". All RPG, platformer, and shooter games when boiled down to their cores are like this. You have a starting point, a goal, a point to get at. Every game worth a crap is like this. Now, in terms of past Final Fantasy games and 3D Mario games is that the game doesn't force you through it. You can wander around and do poop that's completely meaningless like in a sandbox game. Basically you can just run around in circles and kill enemies. Can that be fun? You bet. Would it fun in FFXIII? Possibly, but honestly, I like that the game guides you through the areas, because I'm tired of getting lost in RPG's. It happens to everyone all the time, and critics always complain about when they get lost in Star Ocean or a Tales game and then slam the game for sucking ass.
In FFXIII, there are still corridors to explore on the map to get treasure chests. Hell, that's something I guess if you care THAT much about exploring poop that doesn't have anything to do with...anything.
Long story short, linearity isn't necessarily a bad thing. Tons of games do it and they've been doing it since intercourse ing Super Mario Bros., nobody's complained about it before until this game. It's like no one can find a legitimate complaint other than this(and Vanille...MUST...KILL...).
Side note: I hate that the traditional victory theme is gone. What the intercourse Square Enix? Where is my "da-da-da-da-daaa-da-da-da-daaaaa!" at the end of every battle? I just now realized this.
Didn't Nobuo Uematsu just make the intro theme?
No, Uematsu wasn't involved at all.
Quote from: Zero on March 11, 2010, 10:32:52 PM
No, Uematsu wasn't involved at all.
Oh, that actually explains a lot. He was like every FF game's music deity. :(
You know, I could kinda tell that Uematsu didn't do this music. It's not nearly as amazing as every other game.
But for your linearity argument, Zero, I disagree. In Final Fantasy, it's not supposed to be THIS linear.
Point A to Point B, sure, but allow us to do what we want between those points. This entire game thus far is like the Midgar Section of FF7. Up until you break free from Midgar, it's linear. Which in that case, it wasn't bad, because it wasn't the entire game. When you do break out of Midgar, you can explore the world map as you please, grind as you please, visit villages, talk to citizens, go to shops, etc. etc. In this there is limited interaction with NPCs (stand next to them for one line of dialogue, yay?), thus far there are no villages to explore, you can only grind by fighting enemies along the path and running back, and there is no world map.
I'm not saying it's a bad game, it's just they're changing what makes Final Fantasy... Final Fantasy.
Though people don't like Random Battles, I prefer it. Likely the whole reason there isn't a world map is because of the fact that enemies have to be on the screen to see them.
Edit: Good god I love Sazh. "This dampness sure is damp." "Well, at least this is better than homicidal scorpion robots."
I prefer random battles as well, actually. I see your point and I actually agree with it to an extent, but I just don't see the change as terrible of a thing as a lot of people see it as. NPC interations aren't exactly all that amazing and world maps in addition to all the stuff you can "do as you please" being pretty pointless they can be retarded if done incorrectly(FFIX was a game that had a fantastic world map, for example, but Tales of Abyss's and FFIII's were gay). I can see why the game doesn't have a world map. Because you're actually traveling along the path the characters are traveling, you're not leaving an area and zooming out to an unrealistically small group of continents with oversized locations and random battles in between. I see what the developers were trying to do. While I've grown accustomed to that, I also yearned for something different. Though, I draw the line at changing the victory theme. Seriously? What the intercourse ? It's such a small, yet critical part of Final Fantasy. Why remove it?
And yes, Sazh makes up for every character that game has that is hate worthy.
It's just a bit too different for me. I'm enjoying it, but I'm not sure I'd call it a "Final Fantasy".
As a side, what the intercourse are Vanille's weapons? They're like rods with whips, it's awkward.

But it still looks better than 12 was by far. Each day I see something that brightens some more hope for it (no pun intended)
Quote from: Zero on March 11, 2010, 11:19:33 PM

...Am I the only person who never falls under this? Everyone says "omg balthier is awesome" In FF12 but I'm like the only person in existance who doesn't think that.
Still there's at least 2 likable characters. It's just that I'll probably be whining about whoever else ends out bad.
Sazh, Snow, and Fang are all pretty badass.
15+ hours of gameplay in, and I'm at Chapter 7, at
Hope's house with his father, it just got raided.
Fang's personality made me laugh, I like her.
Hope and Snows scenes are ridiculously emotional.
They're building up the characters pretty well but I wanna see some more backstory, like
When exactly did Fang start helping Snow? One cutscene she has him hostage and the next they're taking out the army with Shiva? I know they stated what happened but I'd like to actually see it.
Also, the
Vanille
twist is pretty interesting. I wanna see where it goes from there.

Well everything is picking up now, so it feels at least 3 times as long. Not sure on actual length.
Combat is better. Characters are WAY less annoying. Story is starting to chug along now. It reminds me of a 'Tales of' game. Slow at beginning, awesome later on.
Uh-oh, he said it was long, so it must be nearing to the finish. Trust me. I said this when I thought FFIX's Disk One was long, and then it ended quickly.

If it ended now, I would not mind. In fact, I expect it to right after this dungeon. But I have been saying that for all the dungeons for a while now...
While I was typing this, I finally got the option to change my CURRENT TEAM!!!! FUCK YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chapter 9: HOLY SHIT PLOT TWIST CRAZY BOSS AND I HAVE MY WHOLE PARTY AND CAN CHANGE ANY TIME I WANT YAYAYAYAYAY.
Chapter 10: HOLY SHIT STORY IS BADASS EIDOLONS ARE BADASS I CAN CHANGE MY LEADER FINALLY BUT SO MUCH RUNNING AND GRINDING AHHHHH
CHAPTER 11: I CAN FINALLY EXPLORE HOWEVER I WANT. IT'S ABOUT FUCKING TIME.
Basically the game is getting amazing, but I have three chapters (including 11, which I just started) left in the game. :(
Easy Bosses are EASY!!!
BTW, Rob, guess who I beat, first time without even dying.

Last I recall destructoid was generally filled with idiots. But really I stopped looking at scores ages ago and focused on the actual quality review; FF13 looks like a mixed bag for
everyone just as I predicted.
Had to return to Blockbuster. I will rent 1 more time and get the rest of the achievements. After that, it is a definite buy. However, I am saving for the PS3 version.
I just got to the last chapter and can happily say that the game was SO well worth it. Plus, they give you the option to go back to the 'open world' segment in the last dungeon to do anything. That really made me happy. The combat was so fun that I found myself just spamming auto-attack so I could watch it. Of course, I still controlled it at most parts. Story actually got pretty sweet. The whole *SPOILER* was a nice twist. Didn't think that would happen, as I only thought he was a l'Cie. I am really glad the story went where it did. Could have gone a lot of ways, but it had nice parts.
I am really in love with this game right now and I want to get it back, but I'm leaving to Arizona Tuesday, so that isn't happening =(. I wonder if my parents would let me rent it and take it there with me... 8)
I finally got around to playing again and I got to Disc 3 and uh...the game's story just took a nosedive into recycling FFX's story....seriously.
So. I thought I would hate this game. I really like it. Sure it's not all open map and random encounter like the Final Fantasy games I'm used to... But it's pretty cool stuff.
Rob told me to post here instead so I'm posting in this thread.
On disc 2. Still changin weather.
Disk 3. Final Chapter. Need to Buy :(
i just got to the part where i'm in that city where hope was born and i'm hope and lightning
cool stuff

SKIP FUCKING EVERYTHING.
Fang is a saboteur, Hope is a synergist. Vanille spams Death.

Some reviews/critics are giving this game a really low score. I believe i saw a 4/10 from somewhere, i think it's just that the beginning is a giant tutorial and doesn't really give you alot of freedom.
So you used the Death Trick. Yeah, that happens. I just wasn't stupid enough to intercourse with one to start with. I was like, "Oh look, giant turtle. If I have learned anything from Mario, its that in a game with a turtle, if you can't jump on it, don't go near it."

Once Hope learns Haste, he blows Sazh out of the water.

Relentless Assault: COM, RAV, RAV
Espionage: SAB, SAB, SYN
Discretion: COM, MED, MED
