Title: Glorious Obscure Bands!
Post by: Sgt.Chilly on March 20, 2010, 06:24:19 AM
I just picked up a bunch of songs by the FUCKIN' Postal Service off of zune!

These guys are like Rush (In that I adore their work) except I haven't seen any of their CDs since my brother let me borrow his.

Are there any non-main stream bands that you simply love?

The Flaming Lips?
They Might Be Giants?
Something I haven't heard of?

Also before I forget I hate Owl City for their cheap attempts to imitate the Postal Service.

WRONG BOARD

But honestly, all three are great obscure bands. Well I wouldn't really call The Flaming Lips totally obscure since they've had a few radio hits; They're more of that "Well I know this song but wow, I didn't know it was by them" I was surprised to see that "Do You Realize" Was by them. I was always wondering who that song was from.

But yeah good stuff you got.

As for something at least not known that much from what I like that isn't already said in this thread I'd say "We Are Scientists" Is easily one of my favorite bands under that category (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSrgJK1CCnA)

Frankly, anyone from Canada will recognize this band, but... Great Big Sea. I've met all of one person who knows these people.

Also, Finger Eleven seems to be all but unknown.

Uhhh. None of those are obscure at all. Try stuff like Impure Wilhelmina and Suffocate For Fuck Sake, or even better, (Damn) This Desert Air.

Depends. Obscure can be a very broad definition in music.

But the ones you posted are far more obscure. The only one I've heard of from that list is the first.

Silver, is this mainstream obscure not /mu/core I BET ONLY 5 OTHER PEOPLE LISTEN TO THIS BAND obscure.

Anyway... Loli Ripe. But I wouldn't really call him a band.

Acid Bath, Between the Buried and Me, Enter Shikari. Oh, Die!!Die!!Color!!! is my favorite band and they're pretty obscure.

Chilly, you might like Arctic Monkeys, We Were Promised Jetpacks, The Raconteurs, Bloc Party, Death Cab For Cutie, The Thermals, or Vampire Weekend.

At first I thought this was a troll but then I realized I wasn't on /mu/ and people do consider these bands to be obscure. Pardon me.

Well post some bands.

You almost always have interesting lesser known bands and you love indie.

Ok fine ;p

Well I'll start with a personal favorite that a lot of people may have heard of (from me at least); Los Campesinos! First album is more happy twee stuff while the later two are more well intense I suppose.

One of my new favorites/most recently discovered artist I love is Mother Mother. And now just for a few more I'll just list: Islands, Architecture in Helsinki, I'm From Barcelona, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Fishboy, and Slow Club.
