Title: Torrent help?
Post by: Magnum on March 23, 2010, 10:44:15 PM
Alright guys, its finally happening. My grandparents need some songs, and they want me to get some. So, I was wondering, how, exactly, you torrent. I have never done it on my computer, and I just want to know the basics from some people who use it and not some guide. Thanks  ^_^

Download utorrent.
Install utorrent.
Go to like, thepiratebay.org or any other site.
Find what you want.
Download the .torrent
Double click the .torrent you just downloaded
Choose a location where you want your files to go
Choose which files in the .torrent you want to download (if you only want like, one song off an album)
Start downloading
enjoy

oh
you don't want a guide

TOO BAD

also you want to make sure what you're downloading has seeders
you're getting your files from seeders.

when your files finish downloading you'll become a seeder
please seed, don't be a dick.

ok well first you have to download a torrent software first i recommend bittorrent because it hase worked for me.
then you have to go to a site that holds torrents like piratebay.com.
finaly type in what your looking for on the site and hit download.
Warning there is a possibility that some of the stuff you try to download can be a virus so look at the comments and seeds before downloading.

The music they probably like isn't up on the internet more than likely, but here is what you do:

1) Download and install a torrent client like Bitlord or Utorrent.

2) Search for a torrent using a search engine, just type in "======= torrent" where ======= is whatever you're looking for.

3) Poke around until you find it, download it, open it with your client and..

4) Pray your download begins and continues at a reasonable speed.

You can change which port it goes through using a preferences tab in most clients, always make sure its above 10000 and limit your upload rate to less than 80% of your download rate. Again, all of that can be done in the preferences tab. Just poke around and you'll figure it out.

Then they probably like to film videos of themselves running through the forest with corpse paint on shrieking, slaughtering livestock, and displaying how "kvlt" they are. Now I miss my grandparents...and the music will be easier to find.

@Magnum: Yeah Modern Nomad isn't kidding, be very careful when you're torrenting.

Restated: there is a large possibility that many of the things you try to download will be infected, so not only look at the comments religiously, but download at your own risk, get a good AV program before starting, and be prepared to do some cleanup if poop does get through.

He's telling the truth. I've yet to run into a bad torrent, but I've seen others do so.

Yeah. It's happened to me before unexpectedly; Was one of the worst experiences of my life to remove. I'd really advise at least skimming through comments very well.

I ran into a few bad torrents.  One made my laptop BSoD a few times and one made my desktop unusable (which is why I installed ubuntu).

ALSO PEERBLOCK!  Update it frequently and at least check the P2P and Government IPs under the blocklist.  HTTP does not need to be blocked, in fact, blocking it may screw with your internet experience if you're checking certain ones (I'm assuming checking the "ads" one was doing this for me).
