Well I'm glad they got rid of the mediocre counter system in XII, to say the least. (At least that's what it looks like, though there are too many new aesthetic design choices to say for sure)
The big thing though for a lot of people is that Mai is in this one. She wasn't in XII and for a lot of people that automatically meant they weren't buying it. People didn't flip poop when Chun-Li wasn't in the first iteration of Street Fighter III, but I guess that's Street Fighter and not King of Fighters.

Yeah I don't know much about this series so my reaction was like "wtf, a thirteenth one" looking at gameplay footage I know i at least wouldn't get it at full price.

Yeah, some Garou characters would be nice. I've heard that is supposed to make an appearance, but I'm not sure yet. They have also finished everyone's moveset and that means Terry Bogard has his BUSTA WULF again. ^_^

Basically, It's SNK Playmore's own little cross over fighting game featuring characters from Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, Ikari Warriors, Psycho Solider, (and I think Metal Slug) as well as characters original to the series. There are currently 13 KoF games in the series excluding spin-offs. The ones I find to be most notable are KoF 98 and 2k2.
It all began in 94'
Kept on rolling in 95'
Square place in 96'
It came to an end in 97 and
now it comes and here we go

...and here I thought KoF was at least known of over the internet. I know it isn't exactly a blockbuster franchise anymore like Street Fighter is but darn.
Anyways yeah I'm happy it looks like they're focusing on gameplay this time around. The new sprites are great but they don't mean much if the gameplay is bland.
