What are some of your favorite Legacy RPG games (from NES-N64)
Some I can list off the top of my head:
-Final Fantasy
-Earthbound
-Final Fantasy II SNES
-Final Fantasy III SNES
-Final Fantasy Mystic Quest
-Secret of Evermore
-Secret of Mana
-Super Mario RPG
-Chrono Trigger
I've been playing some Lufia, and it's pretty meh. So I think I'll stick with the old Final Fantasy titles.
NES and N64 + Memorable RPG's = wat/so few. But dangit Paper Mario deserves the nod.
As for the SNES it wasn't amazing in it's quantity or it's quality but rather for being so innovative. Earthbound was just so...Different. Super Mario RPG contained more involvement into battle asides from sitting there. FFIV/VI stepped forward to give the series a good start with more memorable characters. Secret of Mana had a pretty nice battle system. Chrono Trigger did the whole "Extra endings" As one of the best and had an amazing battle system as well. There's even more than that you can list.
They always make me want to go back and replay them at some time. I was playing through FFVI and SMRPG but I stopped with those for a while when I got my influx of new games.
Final Fantasy Mystic Quest? Really? To be fair I never played it myself, but if the internet is to be trusted (and it is) then Mystic Quest is the worst "Final Fantasy" game in the series. Feel free to make an argument on its behalf though.
I agree that Chrono Trigger and the other Final Fantasy games deserve to be on the list, and while I haven't played either Secret game I've heard great things and would love to try them out on Virtual Console. I would also like to add the Dragon Quest series as equally awesome to Final Fantasy. In particular Dragon Warrior Monsters was an epic game, the rival of Pokemon (and in my opinion superior) and one that I spent many, many hours playing.

It's not the best, but it's definitely a fun game. It's very different. Items can be used on the world screen, you can jump, and it's two people in your party at a time, with your second slot changing alot. I wouldn't compare it to the rest of the series since it's numbered.
