I was watching a recording of it today, and it made me think of a question that I've asked before, and of a question I forgot to ask but never did.
Does Fooley Cooley actually mean anything? It mentions it in the show, and they say they don't even know what it means.
Also, is this REALLY a Japanese anime? First of all, it has a South Park scene, second, they mention the US a few times, third (and this is gonna sound racist in a way), they don't know how to use chop sticks. There are a few other things that I don't remember right now, but yeah.
In the show they indicate that fooly cooly is sex iirc.
Yes, it is a Japanese anime. It also has a Manga format.
The writers tried to include the South Park jokes to appeal to Americans, since most of the Japanese didn't get it at all.

Actually, that was a response to the famous "Chinpokoman" episode that South Park won it's Emmy for. Since South Park satirized Japanese animation a lot, they satirized South Park.
FLCL is an anime really influenced by western shows. That's all there is too it. I love this short show and watched it like 3 times. (since it's so easy to do so) Great soundtrack too.
Btw, I sorta expected a question about the hidden symbolism to pop up.
