Maybe you wanna set a record for speeding through a game, or maybe you're trying to complete a challenge?
Games I've beaten 100% I'll sometimes try to run through fast. I've tried flying through the Zelda games but it was fairly unsuccessful.
Megaman 9 I practiced every single stage to get the "beat the game in under an hour" achievement. I perfected one stage where I didn't waste a single second. I beat the game finally in about 24 minutes, I think.
Speed-run? Not often.
Trying to do some crazy 100% Completion? Currently only Paper Mario: TTYD falls under that. aiming at a god run. Probably like level 99 before the end of the 6th or 7th chapter.
I've tried speedrunning various Mario games, to varying degrees of success. Other than that, the only game I'll speedrun frequently is Mega Man 1/2/9/10.
I used to speedrun Ocarina of Time. The fastest now without glitches is 4 hours 46 min. Last time I actually tried I think I got about 7 hours, but I don't do crazy stuff like walking backwards everywhere because you move faster. I'm still working on Symphony of the Night, The record is 34 minutes, I would be satisfied with 1 hour.

4:46? Holy poop. I think I'm barely out of Jabu in 4 hours.
No, if I've played the game and mastered a level I'll try to go through it fast, but never a whole game.
I'm friends with the guy who has the speed run of Mega Man X2 (I'm pretty sure that's the one), but I personally haven't tried for any speed run records. Too much effort.
I've beaten Donkey Kong Country in under an hour. Think my best is around 50 minutes or so. I could do better, I guess.
I can do Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga in like 4 or 5, I think. I dunno what the record is.
