Title: Greetings, guests, some of which may or may not be bots.
Post by: SkyMyl on June 02, 2010, 12:17:32 PM
I don't care if most of you guests are bots, it's still my job to welcome anyone to NSFCD. You've made a rather mixed option in choosing to view Power On. Why? Because it's essentially NSF's Bowderlized version of /b/, without the +18 content, and because it's the only active board on the forums.

Also, we apologize for the censors. I realize that seeing f.uck as intercourse is odd, but we never changed our censors back from a previous commemorative "holiday", it would seem. Know that members can turn off the censors, and change the skin so that the forum doesn't look so bland. We've got a load of customizable options, and it's only going to improve during the summer.

You may also notice that we've been afflicted with cabin fever, and that most of our members are attacking each other, and that there's been discussion of the forums dying. Believe it or not, that's quite normal for us. Well, except for the members attacking each other. Such a phenomenon is quite new for us. This forum's been through a lot in the past two years, but we've pulled through a lot of poop (censor), and that's why we're still alive and kicking right now. We're a tight community, so we're pretty darn close in terms of friendships/alliances/acquaintanceships...if that can even be considered a term.

Regardless, we have other boards. Some of those boards are even hidden to you, the guests of this forum. No, not the bots that view everything for Google. The bots don't count for anything. It's the users and the actual people without accounts viewing this forum that matter. Why not register for an account and join in the fun? We welcome new members graciously, and we don't drive away anyone intentionally.

To the active members of NSFCD, post a message for the guests of this forum in this thread. They can obviously see everything that's going on, since everything happens in Power On, so why not be friendly to them? Remind them that they're viewing something worthwhile, something that would be worth investing time in. Even if they just lurk about, I think the guests deserve some recognition.

Also, Mods and Admins. While the rules of Power On clearly say that call-out threads are not allowed, that only applies to a specific user. Guests are clearly exempt from this rule. Nor is this intended to be a chat thread of any sort. This technically doesn't break any rules. At least show the guests some kindness.

Again, if you're a bot/spider, viewing this thread on the grounds that you are a bot, then I shall humbly remind you that you do not count as a living person, and therefore, do not qualify as a guest. That being said, this has been MYL, and I hope you all have a good day.

The guests obviously don't care or they would sign up, kid.
Comparing Power On to /b/ just makes you sound silly. Though I see what you were trying to do, saying something like that is completely off and ridiculous.

Except this forum needs to be more active in encouraging new members to register, and then do their best to make the newcomers comfortable.  It's something we've never been good at.

Even though I'm fairly convinced most of the guests are the result of some bug when registered users idle for too long, hi people without faces. If you find most of us appealing personalities, I would love it if you joined the forums or even just visited our IRC chatroom, #nsider. If you put the resident grumps in a box somewhere, we're a really... interesting, close-knit group. ^__^

Not completely off, considering some of Power On's past. Just moderately off.

It's also something I didn't think anyone else here thought of.
