Title: Best deals you've gotten on video games?
Post by: Lotos on June 06, 2010, 03:33:44 PM
I got Fossil Fighters for $17 (with Suffolk County's anoying sales tax rate (http://ny.rand.org/stats/govtfin/salestax.html) and the total rounded up to the nearest dollar) at fye yesterday.  (Thread here (http://nsfcd.com/index.php?topic=36144.0).)  The link explains why I bought it, for the registration slip.  It was on the clearance rack, 30% off.  I asked the cashier how much it was, I thought it would be around $20, but it rang up at $15 without tax.

I can trade it into Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dvideogames-tradein&field-keywords=Fossil+Fighters&x=0&y=0) for a ~$5 loss and get extra Club Nintendo coins.  Awesome.

There was also that $10 off from Nintendo for Punch Out! Wii at Best Buy.  That was pretty cool too.

I want to hear about your deals.  Hopefully you will have one better than the one I got

You get lucky on your taxes; here in Los Angeles ours is somewhere around 9.75% or something nasty.

Best deal I ever got was from negotiating with a friend for a DS; I got a Blue phat and Mario Kart for $40. Unfortunately, that's probably the only decent deal I've gotten...

A few years ago, before the 360 came out, I bought a barely used xbox from a friend of mine for 45 bucks.

I bought The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition (the GCN disc w/ LoZ, AoL, OoT, MM, and a WW demo) from a friend for something like $3-5. It came with his Gamecube, but he didn't like Zelda.

Also, when I was little and needed a guide for everything, I walked into a Gamestop with my dad to get a guide for Paper Mario. We didn't see any, so we asked the guy working there if they had any in the back. He went back and brought back a guide by Prima that was officially $14.99, but had a sticker reading $9.99 pasted on it, and over that sticker was another reading $0.01. Confused, he just handed it to me for free.  :)

Strike that.  It now says $14 on Amazon.  I paid $2.29 for 40-50 Club Nintendo coins.

Either the guy was stupid or the store was stupid (or the stickers were wrong).

Hmm, let's see. I don't remember having a best deals with video games...

Picked up the Orange Box for $10 off of Steam a couple years ago when they had that promo. I also got FFX two weeks ago for $7.50 off of Amazon Marketplace.

I just got Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for $20 (half off) at Kmart.  The game has only been out a month, and it's still 35 bucks for it used at GameStop.

Unfortunately, I missed the Serious Sam free weekend on Steam :(

I can vouch for him on taxes.

My best deal was without question the Xbox I just got. Got the new Xbox-Slim for literally nothing.

Gamestop had a great trade in deal for once, and I took full advantage. And because it was all trade in, I didn't have to pay taxes either.

I traded in one system, three controllers, two 20gig HDDs, a wireless adapter, and a memory card for about 305 bucks.
I didn't need the two extra controllers.

Five dollars for Xenosaga Episode 1.

I would've said Portal, for free, but I passed on that deal because I'm an idiot.

Almost got the Introversion Pack on Steam during the sale, but I had no e-money at the time.
Other than that I can't think of anything.

I did that.  Uplink is one of those games where a "game over" means you lose all of your progress and have to start from scratch.  Well, later I think you can buy things to prevent that, but still.  Frustrating.

Me too.  If I had only added Steam just a little bit earlier . . .

Got a copy of Final Fantasy X for 7 bucks on Amazon Marketplace; my PS3 is one of the original backward-compatible models, and the guy also replaced the hard drive with a 120GB. Got it for $275. Probably the best deal of my life.

NY sales tax sucks.

Best deal? Mario Kart: Super Circuit for... 50ยข.

It was a yard sale though so doesn't really count. That's pretty much it though.

Here's a list of things I've gotten for free at Play N Trade:

Pokemon Yellow
Pokemon Crystal
Wario Land II
Dragon Warrior Monsters
Super Mario 64
Super Mario World
Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt
N64 Controller
N64 Transfer Pak
N64 Memory Card
and some other poop that I can't remember atm.

It's mostly poop they have a billion of and can't get rid of.
