Which type of gameplay do you prefer in games? I really prefer real time combat because you don't have to take turns fighting, and it doesn't take nearly as long. Now, some games, like Paper Mario, Pokemon and EarthBound pull me in because they actually balance it well. Still, even the first time I played a turn based game, I wondered why the enemies were cooperating in my method of fighting, just standing there and looking at me while I scroll through options on how to defeat them. :D
I like turn based.
Usually, (from what I have played) in real time games, I can usually spam one attack or the A button and pwn ass. In turn based games, you can't do that as much, so there is much more strategy.
i like both. its like choosing between pokemon & SSBB
I like both...each have their stregnths and weaknesses.
Turn based...I like the extra strategy required...and the fact you usually have time to think. Allows me to use the most of my mind.
Real time...I like the action, testing myself in my reflexes and how quick I can think.
I like turn based, because I like using my mind. That's the reason I like playing Pokemon so much, especially in high levels of the battle tower, etc, because there's so much strategy involved. It's so much more than just button-spamming.
Active Turn Based. Gives you time to make strategies, but keeps the challenge of your enemies attacking you while you hesitate.
real time, Tales games are the only rpg's i can stand to play other than Mario RPG's and Earthbound.
..I like both..but I prefer real time..
Real time. Mostly because of how much I love the Tales series.
Real time. It's like playing Tetris with less yaoi and more death. Well, unless it's Final Fantasy. Then there's still yaoi subtext for the fangirls, unless you're playing VII because it's got the only popular lesbian pairing in the series, and now that I think about it, there isn't that much death in Final Fantasy. Unless it's IV, V, VI, VII...I don't remember what point I was trying to make. (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Metaphorgotten)
I just played Kingdom Hearts last night for the first time in years, and I remembered what it felt like playing through it the first time when it came out, I honestly don't know how I beat the game, maybe it was the Disney that overshadowed the normally annoying Square/Square-Enix style characters. That wasn't a gripe about the combat, more about Square.
Real time, I suppose, but I like Turn Based as well.
I like both as well. I like CTB (like PKMN) because you can be strategical in what to do and think ahead without much pressure. Games like Pokemon, Final Fantasy X, Golden Sun, Advance Wars, and Final Fantasy Tactics are very enjoyable that way. But I also like ATB because it's smoother and quicker. You can get smooth combos and lot of action. If you are a strategist like me, you will think ahead while acting quick so you can have the best of both battle systems. It all depends on the game you are playing.
I like both, but I'd say I learn more to turn-based.
Depends on the game. I just got Dissidia Final Fantasy expecting it to be turn based, but it's real time which surprised me, and it's still pretty darn fun.
Big fan of both. You know what I hate, though? Timed turn-based, like PA's rainslick precipice of darkness.
Real time. Which you're deciding which magic move will combo best with your sword or some poop, I just shoot you in the head.
raped faggot
Ehh... I tend to prefer real time gameplay.
I prefer turn-based, though real-time can work (see: Tales of Symphonia). You also have things in the middle like FFXIII's paradigm system with an ATB bar which can also be good. The only issue with real-time is that they usually have a steeper learning curve, but they also feel more realistic than turn-based. Pros and cons just like everything else.
I prefer turn bases for some reason, and I don't mind the ATB system from Final Fantasy that gets used in RPG Maker 2003.
