Title: How do you wash your discs? (Games, DVDs, etc.)
Post by: FruitFlow on February 18, 2011, 01:21:12 PM
There comes a time in our life when our discs become somewhat filthy.
Whether it be scratches along the surfaces or just caked on dirt.

We all know that filth and scratches are the most commonly known enemies to the victimized discs, and will do what we can to fix and save them.
My question to everyone is what method of cleansing do you use to purify it, and why you choose it.

You do not have to post a detailed explanation, but it would be nice to hear one.
It's entirely up to you if you choose to or not.

Water or cloth. I never understood the whole toothpaste/peanut butter thing, though I have heard people talk about it before. It is supposed to even work?

I can honestly say none of my discs have every goten dirty. At least not dirty enough to need to be cleaned.

How do you get dirt on a disc anyway?

If they get fingerprints on them and whatnot I'll just dampen a washcloth and gently wipe it, then dry it.
I don't think you really use toothpaste to "wash" discs. That's for scratches.

Toothpaste is oddly effective.

Really now. I've never even tried this method.

My discs don't really get dirty because I take care of them. :B

Cleaning cloths work, since I take care of my discs now.

I always place my games in their cases or just keep them in the system.

When they don't read any more, I clean them with Windex and a soft cloth. If they ever get scratched bad enough I get them professionally resurfaced.

Actually, now that I think about it, I really haven't cleaned a disc in a while. Probably because I've been putting them back in their cases, instead of leaving them out, on top of the TV, or whatever like I always used to. And as for CDs and DVDs, well, they never leave their cases unless absolutely necessary. And I don't actually own very many of those. (Internet, what a wonderful thing.)

Looking back, I treat my discs so much better now than I did a few years ago.

I don't remember the last time I had to clean a disc; I take good care of all my discs, and the ones in my house that ARE in bad shape are generally beyond repair by the time I find them due to my sisters not having the mental capacity necessary to put discs away.

Though I saw this thread many times, I just read it as "dicks" for a sec.

Anyway, I use Peanut Butter.

I didn't think thread title would be this misleading.
