A sad, sad farewell to something I hold dear. After 20 years of loyal and unwavering service, through my youngest days til now, it's been sitting, eagerly ready to be of use. I bid thee farewell Super Nintendo. You were my first gaming console. One of my earliest memories is playing Super Mario Bros. on the All-Stars pack with my dad. We never made it past world 4 when I was that young, but it was fun none the less. You had everything a kid like me wanted. All sorts of genres and all of my favorite characters (minus Sonic of course). From Mario to Power Rangers to Ninja Turtles to Donkey Kong, you had everything. Years went by and consoles came and went, but you were always there, functioning and ready to go at any time. N64 doesn't play as well as it used to, and I've had to replace most of my systems at least once for one reason or another (yay warranties). But you SNES, you never failed me. Through moves, all of schooling, friends come and gone, you were always there, happy to relive old memories if I needed you. Finally, that day as come I have most dreaded amongst gaming. Not Nintendo going third party, or the loss of consoles in general to casual bullpooptery, but the day you leave this earth, never to play another game. I'll miss you good buddy. May you join your brothers Gameboy and Sega Genesis in gaming heaven.

R.I.P.
SUPER NINTENDO
1991-2011
Mind you, this MAY just be an AC adapter issue, but this is the first time in 20 years the thing has failed to turn on for whatever reason (short of not being plugged in of course). I'll check some adapters online, but to be honest I fear the thing as finally kicked the bucket. Any systems you guys have loved that eventually died from old age?
I sell all my old consoles, so they never die of old age while in my household.
However, I have lost several consoles over the years to far more obnoxious reasons; my 360 red ringed after less than a year of ownership, my Wii mysteriously lost the ability to spin discs while at my grandma's house, and my first DS was stolen. All were shortly replaced, except for that bullcrap 360; I'm not going back to Xbox unless they have an exclusive release of Banjo-Kazooie 3.
Oddly enough, the only console to ever go on me was the Gamecube for whatever the reason. We were getting a Wii though, so nobody bothered to fix it.
My NES is still going strong, but I never use it since it takes 20 tries to get a game to actually work. I could mess with it and replace parts and stuff, but I'd probably end up breaking it. :U

My Sega Genesis was like that for a while before finally kicking the bucket. But my SNES worked perfectly until today. Looking online it's one of two things:
1. AC Adapter just plain fried over time, need to replace (the easy problem)
2. The fuse in the SNES fried over time. Can get replaced at a old game shop or if you know someone who can do it.
Reminds me of my old SNES, but thankfully its legacy lives on my Wii.

Why did you change the title of that post?
Also Nayr, I hope it's just an adapter issue. You've done nothing wrong to deserve this. :(

Thanks. If all else fails, there is a Nintendo product repair site that has an option for my problem.
SNES consoles are cheap if it's broken anyway.
My first Gamecube stopped reading discs but I had a replacement plan at Best Buy for it. So they gave me a voucher for the full price that was originally paid for it, but the Gamecube had recently undergone a price cut, so I had an extra 50 bucks.
I love my Gamecube to death. Fortunately if mine breaks I know I can get another one for $30 or less, which would be totally worth it. Don't care that the Wii exists, I loved the Gamecube.

It's not necessarily the SNES in it of itself Tupin...
I've had a Xbox, multiple Xbox 360s, Playstation 1 & 2, Dreamcast, multiple Gameboys(Original, Color, Advance, SP) DS(Original, Lite), and Genesis die or malfunction on me due to constant use. A N64 might have but I don't recall one doing so as they were a superior console.
Oh yeah, my Gameboy Advance has fallen into disuse. It turns on fine, but the dpad doesn't work unless you press REALLY hard for a few seconds. Except for up. It's impossible to play using it though, but it's fine because I have my SP and DS that play GBA games.

I guess I can understand. I still regret selling my NES, the first system I ever played. I got one again, but it's not exactly the same.
These things were built to be tough. It's probably just the power supply. Go to the Digital Press forums, they'll help you find out what's wrong.
The only game system I've ever had that mysteriously stopped working was the Wii. I don't even know why it stopped-just wouldn't boot up. Think it got bricked...but I haven't a clue as to why.

The fire you threw it into might have something to do with it.

I more or less know what the problem is. There are only two explanations for what's going on. Either the AC brick has just up and died (certainly possible due to it's age) or a fuse in the system that has the power blew due to age, again possible. Buying a new AC adapter for about five bucks online to see if that's it. If not I'll have to send it to some shop to repair it.

It's probably the fuse. Replacing it requires soldering. You desolder it off the board, and install either a fuse holder to hold a standard 1.5A fast-blow glass fuse or one of these: http://www.nesrepairshop.com/online_shopping/index.php?productID=522 (http://www.nesrepairshop.com/online_shopping/index.php?productID=522)
It's probably worth checking continuity with a multimeter before you replace it, just to make sure that it's dead. DON'T just bypass the fuse with a wire. It's there for a reason.
How to fix:
http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/nintendo/snes-fuse.htm (http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/nintendo/snes-fuse.htm)
It also may be a problem with the power port itself, which is why you should test the fuse first. It can be one of three things, hopefully it's just your current supply that went bad.
Uh, Tupin, I more or less know it's either the AC adapter or something inside the system. If it's something inside the system, I'm getting someone else to do it. I don't know backwards or forwards if I cracked the thing open. @_@;;
Luckily there seems to be this online repair shop that can handle gaming systems:

If I were you I wouldn't trust opening it up yourself and trying to fix it. I say you should go with that online repair shop. Seems to be a safe and easy way.

I think more effort was put into the older ones to ensure quality and stuff. The manufacturers might cut a few corners on new ones because they think people will buy them anyway.
Look, the 3DS.

I think it wasn't worth $250 since the quality wasn't quite god-tier.
Did you get this fixed?

Oh? List all of the functional flaws of the 3DS, I'm interested in how else you can show just how biased you are.

Holy intercourse this thread is from like a month ago.
Also there's that problem some people have had where the bottom screen leaves scratches on the top screen from contact in sleep mode. Now granted this isn't EVERY 3DS, I've heard it HAS happened.

That kind of poop happens if you toss your normal DS's around like they're bricks as well. People just need to treat their devices more gently. This issue you describe reminds me of the Wii-mote garbage where people would be too rough and swing their motes into their televisions.

"Screen gets scratched no matter what! Not buying it!"
Weakest thing to say. Besides, all portable devices WILL wind up getting scratched sooner or later no matter how much you take care of them.
As for that little issue, just put a piece of cloth. Makes your 3DS look classy.

Shut. The Fuck. Up. I never once said I wasn't buying the 3DS because of that, I wasn't buying it because I was waiting for a price drop (which we now HAVE, so I WILL be buying one.)
I'll have to re-check on the stories of the top screen being scratched, since I've never actually DONE it to a 3DS myself. I'm not sure if the complaints were by 8-year-old spoiled kids or what, jeez.
I'm not biased against the 3DS at all. I've always been a nintendo fan. But I'd like to know why you all think I hate the 3DS for stupid reasons. The main problem I had with it was the high price combined with the lack of games. Both issues are being resolved now. I didn't buy a DS when it came out either, because it didn't have any games. Same with the Wii. There's always a problem with a lack of games, and I never see a reason to buy a system I'll barely even USE. Until games come out.
Nayr I really feel for you... I know that if my N64 died I'd be bawling my eyes out.
Crying over a video game system? Oh man Bear would have a ball here.
If you N64 breaks, buy a new one. They're pretty cheap.
Like an N64 would ever actually die. I've never heard of one not working.
my girlfriend's did
she bought a new one right away, lol
