Title: Australia game rating system finally goes mature
Post by: Neerb on June 18, 2012, 04:20:22 PM
Australians are infamous when it comes to video games due to a rating system that literally didn't go high enough for certain "mature" games to come to the country, but now they are finally adding a new rating: "R - Restricted," which is for games for ages 18+.

Basically, Australia just legalized M-rated games. Congratulations?

Took them long enough.

I don't get why they have the same board that rates films and television rate video games. The ESRB was founded because the US game industry decided they would rather police themselves than let the government do it. Japan didn't seem to have this problem for some reason, they didn't have a rating system until 2002.

It's a shame what happened with Left 4 Dead in that country. The gamers down under probably found one way or another to play the game, though.
