Title: Sniping in Halo 3 vs sniping in Gears.
Post by: Insane Asylum on October 12, 2007, 03:13:33 PM
Which do you find is cheaper?  On one hand, an Active Reload makes Gears a ninny, but auto-aim + semi-auto sniper + sweeping = Cheap as well.

Personally sniping in Halo 3 requires far less skill in my opinion since two rapid shots is all it takes combined with Sniper-Sweeping (although it's still harder to do than in Halo 2).  Gears...moving upsets your shot while the darn thing is slow-as-hell bolt action; you definitely have to be a good shot to use it, even with an active reload.

Your thoughts?

Halo's autoaim makes it so easy to snipe somebody. anybody half decent at the game can snipe pretty well. It's been slowed down, but if somebody doesn't know you are there, and is running in a predictable pattern, it's easy as hell to snipe them.

Gears, despite my limited play time, seemed to take more skill in every type of weapon, including the sniper. You can't flinch when you are aiming it, if you want to get the shot.

Where the hell are you getting a rapid-fire Sniper Rifle in Halo 3? It's a semi-automatic rifle, but sure as hell isn't firing that fast.
And no, Halo 3's sniper rifle does not have aim-assist. Hell, otherwise, people on Bungie.net wouldn't be whining that it didn't work.

I said "Semi-auto" so lol wut? If I can get off 3 shots in 2 seconds with little recoil from the weapon, it's broken as hell compared to the slow-ass Longshot.

I over-exaggerate with Aim-Assist but doing games like Shotty Snipers at Valhalla, it's still there.  It's nowhere as prevailant as Halo 2, but it's still there.

What amuses me is that people are whining about it not working. Headshots sometimes aren't being registered, although it clearly hit via the Saved Film.

All through this? Bungie's refusing to even adress it, saying that it requires more 'skill now'.

Gears and Halo are differnt games. Gears is slower-paced, and can thus get away with a bolt-action rifle. Halo is faster paced, and needs a semi-auto rifle in order to make people snipe.

That... explains a bit of WTF Moments with the Sniper.

I suppose so.  But that doesn't stop people from comparing completely different games, hence this thread.

On a side note, PLAY MORE GEARS, DAMMIT.

Sniping in Gears definately seems to not only take a lot more skill it feels a lot more satisfying when you actually do get that headshot.
