They do it for chat, but of all the online games of course runescape is the one they go to. And they aren't geeky girls, either. I guess they just have friends and like to chat with them.

So, yeah, you runescape nerds obsessed with a terrible game, there is your proof.

They are in my classes, and I tried to do whatever I can to make them not play it.

Uh... yeah.
Actually, it's that way for pretty much all MMORPGs. In the world of MMORPG games, the ratio between girl and boy gamers seems significantly higher than in offline or console games.
And yet, I don't play MMOs...

Oh, and these are your occasional casual Wii games at times girls who use runescape to chat, AIM might be too annoying to them. Not much for geekiness.

I feel sorry for people who play Runescape. Last time I went to an internet cafe and played WoW all night with friends, I noticed kids next to me playing Runescape and just laughed.

Runescape players should grow some balls and buy a real MMO.

I like Guild Wars, but I've tried City of Heroes and Star Wars Galaxies.
