EDIT: also, you need speakers.
Oh, by the way, this is mine:

I've seen much worse, trust me.
2.2 Ghz is kinda slow for a processor now...unless it's dual-core, then it's a good speed. You also might consider getting 2 gigs of memory. Also, XP Pro>>Home Edition any day of the week.
HD is pretty big...I could probably live off of a 100 GB one if I had to. Also, 7200 RPM drives are faster than 5600 RPM ones. I'll take speed over capacity any day.

Call Dell's customer support ONCE and try to say that with a straight face.
They also dumped tons of preloaded spyware on my computer. Good thing they included the XP backup CD.

Clockspeed doesn't really mean anything anymore. You have to look at the CPU.
Anyways, I'd go with at least an Athlon X2, although a Core Duo 2 would be better. Get a RAM upgrade (2GB should do), and get Vista Home Premium.
I just decided in a hour that I'm going to get my new mouse.
Logitech G5 Laser Mouse
My crappy trackball just isn't that good anymore.

Sorry, forgive me if I actually know what I'm talking about. You can turn said 'annoying messages' off, and since he's getting a new computer, he's better off with Vista. The only major issues are that some ATi cards don't work properly, and Creative has been slow with X-Fi drivers.

New computer? Naw.
Just updating this one.
Plus, I'm probably going to wait a few years till I get Vista.
Btw, would this graphics card be good?

Mines pretty poopy:
I have 1.6 GHz Processor IIRC and about 256MB shared RAM. The Dell graphics card that whores my memory. and a 37GB HD, though I at least now have an external 120 GB HD. It also has no internet and is running on XP Home Edition SP1
You guys are spoiled.
Y'know what I'm running right now?
892MHz AMD Duron processor
512MB RAM
80GB HDD (Still have 40GB free)
8GB integrated graphics card
Windows XP
Uhh...3 CD drives, 2 of which are CD-R, one of them CD-RW.
15" LCD monitor, probably 10 years old.
SiS Audio Card

Let me guess, you saw 512MB and thought it was a good deal?
It sucks. If you're gonna pay that much, get something decent. First, find out if you have AGP or PCI-e x16. If the former, you'll spend more on a card that isn't that great. If you have PCI-e, at least go for a Geforce 8600.
Also, Silverhawk and Totla, I'm so sorry. I don't know how you handle it. Particularly Totla, I've had experience with a system like that. It's unbearable.
I've got a pretty nice system. I don't feel like typing out specs right now, though. Core 2 Duo E6300 system, 2GB RAM, Geforce 6600, etc, blah blah blah.
