Title: ITT: Melee Systems of the Past.
Post by: Commander Awesome on October 19, 2007, 06:48:58 PM
Melee is often a last resort in FPS, a gamble if you will.
FPS, however, usually have differnt systems:

Call of Duty: The melee is underpowered, underreached, and generally unreliable. You know what? I kinda like it this way. It's downplayed, and often a last resort. Even in CQB, it's often better to keep on shooting.

Halo 1: More important than in CoD, but still downplayed in multiplayer. Animations were cool, though.

Halo 2: LOOK MA! I CAN FLY!!!!
Horrendous lunge distance. Swords can intercourse ing fly.

Halo 3: Holy poop, what the intercourse  have you done, Bungie? You brokeded it!
A system based on who has the most health? Are you kidding me? Let's forget any sort of skill, then.

Call of Duty 4: What? Yes.
Pull out your trusty KA-BARs, mates! We be shanking people!
There's a bit of lunge to get used to, but nowhere near as bad as Halo 2's. Besides, it's COOL. The animation has a sort of weight so little used.

Gears is rather annoying.  One stuns, second downs, and third kills.  If you nail them and strafe out of the line of fire, you've essentially killed them.

I actually like Halo 3's.  You can't nail them until their shields are completely down, otherwise you'll get boned.

True, which is why people need to know when to time it now.
