Title: Did Gamestop sell me one of their "new used games"?
Post by: Booster on October 24, 2007, 12:29:51 PM
For those who don't know, Gamestop lets their employees open new games and repackage them and sell them as "new". And I just picked up my copy of Phoenix Wright 3 along with the plush (that incidentally is very poorly made and small) and either Capcom did a horrible job at sealing it, or Gamestop opened it and re-sealed it. (And I'm leaning toward the latter.)

Take a look at the bottom right corner. There's a huge air pocket and around where you would open up the case. And the seam is horrifyingly bad. (All of the corners on the box is stretched as well.)

Here's a shot of the side. And no, I'm not stretching it. I'm just holding it straight. It's always that stretched.

The corner again. Oh and something I forgot to mention was that if I hold the game case up to the light, there are weird shiny waves in patterns on the wrap. Do they have that for regular seals?

It's a DS game.
Why does it matter, unless you're a collector?

doesn't it ever strike you as fishy how they don't ever have games in the original packaging?

that's why I don't get games at EB or Gamestop.  I like to know that my game is actually new, not just masquerading as so.

Why does it matter, unless you're a collector?

It's the principle of it. I payed for a new game. It's not a new game.

Yes, I got that. Have you enjoyed the game? I haven't opened it yet. I'm returning it tomorrow because I'm that much of a stubborn jerk.

Not that it matters, since you'll be getting the same exact game tomorrow.

I should have stated this earlier; I'm only partially taking it back tomorrow because of the principle of the thing. The other reason I'm taking it back is because finally I'll have a new excuse to yell at the Gamestop employees. The "quit pestering me to trade-in and pre-order games" one is getting old.

thats not the issue.

the issue is that since it isn't in its original packaging, you have no way of knowing whether or not it's actually new.

Who cares? As long as it works, you'll get what you paid for. I'd just accept the fact that it may have been used once, and get over it.
Besides, you can still delete all the saved data once you get it.

I'd prefer that too, but if I happen to get a used (albeit perfectly functional) game, so be it. A game is a game.
