After playing a little hypermode file tonight on MP3, I failed to get enough troopers to the gate on the first time (that mission is HARD... and I completed it on the second time, of course) I got the message that too many had died... yadda, yadda, yadda, then I died.  Immediately.  Do you think that the loss is so bad for Samus, she kills herself?  It came across my mind a short while after I was like, "oh, no...  this mission is a b****...  Man, that sucked..." and you know what I mean.  Do you think the same?

Umm... Its a game. If the troopers die, you die. Then you start over and hope you make it. Simple as that.

Well, I think it would make more sense if there was a special game over cutscene just for those certian moments, like there was a special cutscene for when you get corrupted.

So, like in the cutscene, Samus tells the demo. troopers to stay back, kills the pirates, and retreats, and the game over screen shows a paper saying mission failed and Samus had her hand on her face in grief.  Something different than dying like you committed suicide or something.  You know what I mean?

Yay!  Metorid2424 is here!

Okay, back on topic...

The reason you need 4 is that the door is big.

3 are needed to destroy the door, but then there is a computer in the room to alert every pirate in the planet that the way to the seed is open for Samus to use, so another trooper HAD to destroy the console or the remaining troopers and Samus would more than likely die due to nigh impossible odds.

And, one more thing...  the demo troopers explosives are powerful, but not extremely powerful (though they do look like they have great power for their size.  Having their armor make those is probably why they don't use much energy for shielding.).

Another way to do it is if the gf ship brought a nuclear bomb inside the base, and samus went up with them when dane came down to talk.

Then watch the explosion in orbit, then you can get to the seed :O

GF never use there brain :P
