Yeah, but people actually do read and write it. I don't get how they do it...

They would probably say the same thing about English.  Our languages are completely different, but characters words in both stand for various meanings.

But the boxes look exactly the same. How do they tell them apart? Oneday, I'm going over there just to learn how they do it...

Well obviously, in Japan, the computers have the ability to view that type of character built in, so that it doesn't appear as boxes. They're not boxes on my computer.
