Something like that happened to me before.  Except instead of seeing a shadow, when walking home I saw a stranger in our backyard.  I grabbed a Crow Bar that was in front of the house, and went into the backyard to find the bastard.
I could't find him.  He must have hopped a wall or something.

Once when I was 11 we had this drunk for a neighboor, and he was in the back of my house. So I went back there and he started cussing at me. So I went inside and got my moms lead pipe (She used it for protection when she lived in Sad Deigo. Its a bit bent  :-\) and hit him in the head with it. Then I called the cops and said he tried to take a swing at me and fell. I've never seen him since  :)
