You don't have to pick up everyone.

Hell, you can run through the entire maze as Luigi and them and go fight Tabuu as the, if you wanted

neither of them are awesome.  I hate both characters. -_-

I just chose not to pick them up.  I didn't break the wall that sits beside G&W (I had gone through it on normal with my brother previous to this) and I just walked past ROB.

Game and Watch is waaaaaaaaaaaaay too light. Tabuu will crush him.

Unless he's going to be your 3-6th character in line, you're screwed. Trust me, I learned after two tries -_-

Yeah, I used Yoshi (my old melee main) & down A, Captain Falcon & knee (and the fact that he's generally tough to knock out), but he got murdered instantly.  then Marth & counter spam (ftw) then Falco & general awesomeness, then Snake & rockets and such (not a good choice), followed by Ice Climbers that I didn't use.

I just kept on dying.

But I have a question. If you go back to the SSE and decide to play that level again, would you have to collect all of them? Or would you just have to get the person you missed?

I'd imagine you would only have to collect what you missed the previous time.  that's what works with trophies and secret characters.
