I only use masterballs when  i have catched the pokemon enough times to where it is just work,
of course i've caught mewto (blue) with a great ball,
There is one exception, for some reason i just don't even want to mess with palkia/dialga at spear pillar, (proabably because my pokemon are too embarrassingly weak to put up a good fight *cough*)

I use them when I'm reseting for good natures and perfect ivs.
I NEVER remember to do that!  In some of my games though, I've avoided certain legendaries or other stationary Pokemon so when I would have the patience and willfulness, I could try doing that.

And I just remembered, I MAY have used a Masterball on Rayquaza in either Ruby or Sapphire.  I think I did.. just 'cause I was frustrated with using 50-100+ Ultra Balls on a Rayquaza in red health with a status effect or two, haha.  But then I wouldn't save.. I'd just get the satisfaction of knowing it can be caught, and I can always give in if I really get tired of trying.. and then I would Ultra Ball it some more with the strategy I had goin' and eventually DID get it with an Ultra Ball.

It was probably.. yes.. I believe it was Groudon, in Ruby.  I wasn't prepared AT ALL for that battle and I was getting obliterated.  I didn't have a well-rounded team or one capable of weakening legendaries or anything really to a catchable point.  My team was just soldiers sent forth to deal heavy and fast damage and if one falls, send another.  Very little strategy for in-game stuff.. which hurt me at some points.  Not enough variation.  I believe I Masterball'd that and wasn't aware of Rayquaza until some time later and regretted.. maybe I didn't have a Masterball for Ray at all and just did my best until after a few weeks I got it.

I'm a little out of it and this was years ago so yeah. =/

I always save it on the lvl 70s, but couldnt you get 2 in Diamond and Pearl?

and wasnt there a way to win them?
In almost every Pok?mon game you could get as many as possible due to the lottery, but every number has to match to get it if I'm not mistaken.
This is true, so try to trade as much as possible with other people, as it will use the numbers of the trainerID on the pokemon in the lottery.
To be heard, speak up. To be seen, stand up. To be appreciated, shut up.
