Ahem, before you act all defeatist, have you even tried to get said cat to the vet?
If so, I'm guessing they said they can save the poor thing, huh?

If they couldn't, I might cry... okay, maybe not cry, but I give my condolences.
Just give the thing comfort and care.  Let it live the last days of it's life in comfort like none other.
