Hello, I currently have a Gateway GM5457E desktop computer with a Core 2 Duo processor running at 1.86Ghz, NVIDIA GeForce 7500LE video card, and 3 GB of RAM. This is the family computer, with the two primary users being me and my Dad. I frequently use this computer for games, such as Rainbow Six: Vegas. My Dad uses the computer for Photoshop and Lightroom.

Unfortunately, this computer has the tendency to slow down quickly when running a game or using Photoshop. Additionally, I have to run Rainbow Six on the lowest settings so I can play the game somewhat smoothly.  :'(

So, to get our computer up to a considerably faster speed, we have decided to completely upgrade the computer. Our plan includes a new motherboard, processor, and graphics card.

PROCESSOR: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 (3.16 GHz, 2 x 6 MB, 1333MHz)

MOTHERBOARD: Intel DQ35JOE LGA7750 (1333/1066 MHz, 4 x 240 pin DDR2 800 Memory, 8GB Memory)

GRAPHICS CARD: ATI Radeon HD 4870 (1GB, 256-Bit GDDR5, CrossFire Supported)

With this, we are also considering adding more memory, bringing it up to 8GB.

So my question is will this be enough to get our computer up to speed to handle graphics intensive programs that me and my Dad both use frequently? Please leave recommendations and advice. Thank you!

That'll probably do fine, but my personal preference would be a Nvidia card and AMD processor...
