SEGA is apparently rereleasing their Dreamcast originals on Xbox Live and Playstation Network, complete with "enhanced 'high resolution visuals,' surround sound, online leader boards, and trophies and achievements." The first game will be Sonic Adventure this fall, followed by Crazy Taxi.

Yay? Nay? Any wishlists?

Nayrman

Hell yea. Finally I can play some games I never got to.
Gee Nintendo, wouldn't it be great to get a lot of good Dreamcast games for your system to download? Oh wait, you have no memory. Oh well I'll just play on my PS3 then. (la la la).

I demand Jet Grind Radio!

Basically, this is Sega's way to say "to hell with our new games. We'll just put our famous old ones with high resolution and still get more money to make MORE new games".

Nayr, I'm sad to say you're such a big jerk to Nintendo. Give them a break, please.

This news excites me, since I've never played anything on the Dreamcast.

... like Nintendo and Sony and Microsoft have been doing for a while, but with better reason since SEGA doesn't have consoles anymore.  :|

Fixed. I'm in no way against any video game company whatsoever. Be more careful next time.

Is a few GB of memory really too much to ask for? Downloadable games are actually some of the best games nowadays to be honest, but you can't have those on the Wii since it has no intercourse ing memory and no one wants to develop for it...

Well, you can't download Dreamcast-sized ones at any rate. We still have 64-bit and back on the VC, and WiiWare is alright sometimes.

I find it kind of funny the Virtual Dreamcast won't be coming to the Wii. Maybe hopefully Nintendo will realize they're potentially losing money on this and address the storage issue. Of course being Nintendo, they may wait until next-gen and just release Wii++.

Yeah, with 360 power levels while Xbox and Playstation have gone even further.  :(
Of course, N64 was actually more or less on par with PS1, and despite a lack of special features, the Gamecube was graphically the most powerful of it's gen; it's just this current gen that has Nintendo behind in the power department. So, I suppose it's not impossible that they might finally catch up with others next gen.

Graphic wise, the N64 was the same as the PS1 (for the most part), but the cartridge storage space Severely limited it's capabilities. Only the first of Nintendo's terrible string of technical decisions. Gamecube graphics wise was slightly less powerful than the XBox, but it relied on memory cards and had no internet support. Not to mention the UMD issue. Didn't stop piracy at all. Although this was the most level playing field since the SNES in terms of power and such. No real complaints on either to be honest.

Warning, incoming Wii-UGH-ness

The Wii, just oy the Wii. The Dreamcast had a better online seriously. And Nintendo, memory is cheap now. A company like you can add 10GB of memory to a system with no real cost to you as you would easily gain it back with software, especially considering how you have nearly zero cost putting your old games online, one or two VC downloads pays for the memory itself. No storage was purely Nintendo being lazy asses.

Rius

Yes. I can get a 40 GB hard drive for $20, and that's including the cost of the middleman. Unlike Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo has always made a profit on every console and game they ever sold: adding 40 or even 20 GB of memory would not have cut into their astronomical revenue.
Oh well, not like it matters anyway. My biggest complaint is the virtual stuff you do buy is registered to your system, not your account. Even if Nintendo did come out with a Wii with more memory or something, people wouldn't be willing to upgrade if they have to buy everything all over again. I've always been a Nintendo fan, but I hope Sony or Microsoft (mostly Sony since I have a beef with Microsoft beyond games) rattles Nintendo's cage so they can back to serious business.

The Riddler

SHENMUE, PLEASE.

And if Shenmue sells well, maybe they'll finally make Shenmue 3.

Zero

Uh...guys. Seriously?

You're saying that a 32 bit console is equal in power to a 64 bit console? The N64 was more powerful, even with the blurry textures. Developers like Rare created some awesome ways to get around that, just look at games like DK64 that completely blow away anything that the PS1 had to offer graphics wise(hell the freaking 3D Rare logo in the opening sequence of each game was like...Dreamcast quality). There are more games than that that exhibit the power the N64 can put out, but you get my point.

Sure the PS1 had the more expansive library and the N64 carts had limited memory but it was definitely the weaker console in terms of specs(generally speaking), which is why every port the N64 got looked plenty better than its PS1 counterpart.
