Congratulations to SilverHawk79 on his victory. He netted the cash prize, and will return in 2012 to defend his title. We hope to see as many of you as possible in 2012!

The Eighth Annual Holiday Moot Trivia Game
Delivering cheap thrills and cash prizes since 2004
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 28 @ 10:00 PM ET, CHATSPIKE CHANNEL #MOOT
SPONSORED BY NSFCD  D:
Sponsored ceremoniously by Team Quiz. [rah rah!]

And so it exists! Welcome to the official thread for the Eighth Annual Holiday Moot Trivia Game, sponsored officially by NSFCD and ceremoniously by Team Quiz.

This is our eighth running of the game, and its tradition and excitement have stood the test of time. Many who showed up five years ago will be returning today, and many who have never been will also show up. I fully and wholeheartedly expect that we will have a good turnout this year.

Just so you have a backstory, this game has run in the interim between Christmas and New Years Day for eight years late at night in the dark alleys of IRC. Recently we have given a cash prize, as will be the case this year. I'm going to ask the winner immediately after the game where they live, like a class-A creeper, and I will mail $25 cash to that address, no questions asked, including a handwritten congratulatory note. I may or may not include other items. Probably not. But you get $25 and you feel good about winning.

The game will take place on Wednesday, December 28, at 10:00 PM ET in the Chatspike channel #moot. Directions to enter that room are posted below and will be posted at the heading of this thread on the evening of the event. You may enter the room at any time to verify that IRC works on your computer, i.e. you're not an idiot.

Note that EVERYONE is invited, not just people that are part of this community. Tell your friends the night of, it'll be great fun!

The rest of this thread will include the rules of the game, which I will briefly review on the night of the game in the chat room. I've also included instructions to reach the chat room where the game will be held.

See you Wednesday night!

Rules and Gameplay in Holiday Moot Trivia

SUMMARY: There are four rounds of elimination trivia. The winners of those four rounds face off in a final round to determine a final winner.

GAMEPLAY: Each round consists of elimination-style trivia. I'll ask a question after announcing what the reward of the question is. The first person to answer that question correctly will win that reward. Question themes are random and of some Nintendo games, but probably mostly random general knowledge. The rewards of questions include...

MOOT: Allows you to moot, or "mute," a number of players in the game. By muting them, they will be effectively out of the game for that round, unable to speak. You may be able to choose exactly who you want to moot, or it may depend on the positioning of the winner's name on the list of people in the chat room.

UNMOOT: Allows you to bring people who have been mooted back in the game. There are also questions that specifically target people who are mooted, allowing them to private message me answers and earn a spot back into that round. So don't disappear if you get mooted, there will be chances to return.

OTHERS: Past rewards have included vetos, shields, etc. which modify gameplay in different ways.

Note that there are many different types of moots, sizewise. We may experience questions in which one person is mooted, or two, or four... or more...

Gameplay in that round continues until one person is left standing. That one person is the winner of that round. We play four rounds, each of which have one winner. The four winners move on to the final round. If anyone wins multiple rounds, that just means that less people will be in the final. SO, it is in your best interest to continue competing even if you win a round—it could significantly increase your chances of winning in the final round.

FINAL ROUND: With the four (or less) people who move on to the final round, we play a point-based trivia round. Each first correct answer is worth one point. Whoever reaches the predetermined point total first (which will be announced at the time of the finals) will win the game.

Whoa, thanks for reminding me. I completely forgot about this D:
I really hate how I've made more than 12,000 posts here. Thankfully this swaying, moving Chandelure makes it all worth it.

Alternatively I think the chat function up top should still be working.

There would have to be a chat function at the top in the first place for it to be working.

There isn't one on the High Voltage skin, at least. What about a link:

EDIT: Lo and behold, the link works.

With only two days left I encourage everyone to try to enter the channel and ensure that it works. Also get your thinking caps ready and start mentioning this to anyone you know that might want to come. All are welcome.

Huh, I thought there was a Chat button up top. Guess not. Also, mass email a-gogo?
