Having it on 24/7 would be extremely annoying when I am trying to sleep ;_;

I would prefer it to be on:
1: When there is a new Wii update
2: When there are new messages, like it is now
3: The ENTIRE time that the Wii is turned on, not just a brief flash. This part should be selectable in the menu whether it's on or off.
4: When any significant main system error occurs (i.e. a chip is damaged or missing, the data drive got reformatted somehow, an unrecognized device is connected, etc)
5: As part of game scripting, the game should be able to output into the disc illumination, making it capable of flashing when instructed or whatever

It should stay off while I try to sleep.

Oh, yeah, I would like it to light up while the Wii is on, because the Standby light looks pretty similar to the On light.

I agree, the blue light is so awesome. I wish it came on more often. Mine hasnt come on in a while  :(
