Are my parents overreacting?

"Harry Potter is evil."
"'An evil wind is rising...' (on back of Wind Waker case), What have I told you about this evil stuff!? >:( "

...But I still respect them and I just don't mention any of it around them. They were raised that way and they raised my dad that way. Fortunately, he's more of a free-thinker, but still holds on to the dearest Christian values. Like homosexuality is a sin... :(
My mom is quite liberal though, and I just found out that she's sort of a Deist; she reads the Bible for guidance, but is skeptical of all the parables and miracles and such. She is becoming increasingly awesome. This summer, I found out she got into an argument with her English professor about homosexuals' rights. :O

But, yeah, it's not that odd, just wait it out. XD

Adding -ism implies that it is a religious belief.  Being gay is not a religious belief educate;

consumerism

My bad. Adding -ism to something indicates a set ideology and views on something.  being gay is just merely liking the same gender, nothing more.
