Wait wait so Legion of SuperHeroes...?

Wasn't something the WB made up in order to leech off the success of Teen Titans?

Cause I recently saw of Justice League Unlimited where they went into the future and
helped out the Legion of Super Heroes and JLU didn't change a lot about the Justice League
plot.

So does this mean there was a series of Comics about the Legion of Super Heroes?  And that an actual Brainiac 5 was written into the DC universe?
