Hey all, this is my first tutorial, and it is for a very simple effect I created/discovered. As far as I know, the results are quite limited, but you never know when this RAVEN, or PEACOCK, tutorial may add an effect to your sig!

*I am sorry for limited pictures*

First, I would ask that none of what I show is reused, etc. or ripped. If that is the case, I will rip you in half  :)

That is ONE of the possible results.

Step One.

Open Gimp--->File-->New (the dimensions we will work with in this sig are 300 X 100)

Step Two:

Fill the sig (paint bucket tool) with a light color, but make it "neat". By coincidence, I am a huge Super Smash brothers fan, and took the yellow out of King Dededee's beak.

Anyways, if you see a color you like, use the COLOR PICKER tool (the eye dropper) and simply "steal" that color.

Step 3:
Add Light!
Go to Filters-->Light Effects-->Lighting Effects

Just place one beam of light, wherever you please, using the defaults presented to you.

Step 4:
Next, you need to BLUR. You can use any brush you please, but I chose NITRO BRUSH 7.

That pic shows you exactly what my settings are. I used 10 % opacity, so the change is not too noticed. You want to blur AWAY from the light, however.

Step 5:

Now, to add a little FLARE to your work!
Filters-->Render-->Nature-->Flame
Adjust Brightness and Contrast to however you feel. The rest should be at their lowest settings. Try and make the focus the lines, rather than the speckles, by lowering the two values, but not TOO much.

Apply Flame.

Step 6:
Filters-->Edge Detect-->Neon

Simply Apply it, and you will be done.

Step 7

Save it; seeing as there are no layers, it will be quite standard. I recommend saving as PNG.

My final result is:

Using different colors as the Background lends to new effects. By playing around with values, and color, you can personalize this quite a bit.

Enjoy, and please share with us all :)

Try it out exactly, then you will get a similar effect. By changing the variables, that is when things get interesting. I opted to show the Peacock/Raven effect I created, but if used nicely, this can look good on light colored sigs :O
