Yeah.
I got a text from 3 of my friends saying it sucked something awful.
Really awful.
Have you seen it?

Go Haka!

OneManFreakShow

I saw it today.

They're all wrong.

Did they give any reason why it sucked? Probably not. No one that hates it ever does, because quite frankly there was nothing wrong about the film. I think a lot of people that supposedly hate it are just saying so because they either didn't buy into all the hype put into it, thus having it in their minds that it's overrated, or just want to sound "cool" for hating a movie that's getting very good reviews and a lot of hype behind it. I, for one, loved it.

Also, it never made me sick. :|

Well they said that it wasn't scary, the camera sucked at filming, and......um.......*reads text*

If anything...it looks like it's overrated. I haven't seen it yet, so I save and judgements, it looks okay, but I think they're overhyping it...just like they did with every scary movie this decade outside of Saw X_X;;

It wasn't supposed to be scary. If they went into the movie expecting horror, then they saw the wrong thing. It never even classified itself as a horror movie.

Also, I wish people would stop complaining about Hud. He's not a bad cameraman. He's nervous. If he was perfectly still with the camera, then people would complain that it's not realistic enough. The movie was meant to be realistic, not some world where no one is scared at all.

I'm not a fan of that type of filmaking...I can never tell whats going on (I have major depth perception issues, so videocamera video is like eyes bleeding for me). So that probably means I wouldn't like the movie too much then?

Ivan_the_Great

Well, is it worth taking my gf to watch?

Uh I saw it last night heres it 25-30 EXTREMELY boring minutes in the beginning where it may be shorter buts seems really long and then the monster comes and they start running and the camera flies everywhere making me get sick and run out to vomit and then the other stuff is pretty boring a couple funny parts, couple cool fighting stuff but not that much then someone got stabbed with like a pipe through her lung she gets saved and 5 minutes later shes running like normal then they show the monster and its lame looking and then it has a retarded ending.

@above: The first 25-30 "boring" minutes were to give you background information about the characters, so that it's not a movie just about random people running around. There is actually a good plot. As for the acting, I'm glad they didn't choose any well known actors ~ they chose nobodies so that it looked realistic. No one was extremely hot or anything; they all looked like people would if something like that happened.

I went in to see an action movie, and I got much more than I bargained for. It was great. ;D
Holy crap all my sigs were always poop. Best leave this space alone.

Cecil_and_Kain

What were you people expecting? 5 stars, best movie of the year? It's a monster movie.
I thought it was great.

I thought it was really good; saw it last night.  As far as the 20 minutes or so at the beginning, the whole point of the movie is that this broken camera is found in what used to be Central Park, and the movie is simply what's on the SD card.  Are we supposed to believe that the guy sees a freaking BUILDING explode in the distance, and his first thought is "I'll go get my camera, LOL!"?  Of course not.  The only reason he'd carry a camera around with him would be if he was already holding a camera when the attack happened.  The party gives him a reason to be holding one.  Also, the party does give a certain amount of character developement.
We learn that Rob and Beth were in love, which gives the reason for their excursion to go get her from the building.  We learn the Hud is a tactless guy who talks a little too much and has a crush on Marlena, and we also learn that Liz(?) and Jason are dating.
All of this is essential information if you want the characters' emotions later in the movie to be believable.  Besides, the monster isn't the subject of the movie, it's the setting.  The subject is the reaction of this group of friends to a crisis: the monster just happens to be that crisis (and a really cool-looking crisis at that :P).

I hope in a year or so RiffTrax will get a hold of cloverfield

Mr. ESTOAG

Your friends do understand this isn't a horror movie? That it's not about the bloody monster? It's called a genre-bender movie, It's doing something different which is extremely good.

The camera was a problem? Tell me, if you were in this situation, would you be able to film this perfectly? I doubt it, it worked well and made me a whole lot less dizzy then The Bourne Ultimatum, which did an awful job with the camera.

As for the 30 first minutes, realistic plot and character development at the beginning of a movie? The NERVE!
