all of nintendo's big titles include updates with em.
and I have gotten updates, so no U don't need internet..

A firmware update is an update that changes something about the appearence of features of the system (such as adding time to the wii menu, new channels, ect.)

Game updates make it so the system can play the game!  ;)

odd... because when I got Galaxy, and did the update, the clock appearedon my menu...:O
Maybe it's for people who don't have it yet...XD
but yeah, I guess it's for being able to play the game.
