Smart Bomb Flaws?

It's pretty strange but for some reason the computer players (all lvl 9) threw 4 smart Bombs in a row at me, not all at once though. The odd thing about it is that they just damaged me and went through me w/out detonating. This kept puzzling me and it's been happening a lot lately. I thought it maybe to be a glitch of some sort, but that couldn't be.

"It does seem that they occasionally fail to explode. You might throw it, only to watch it not detonate. In those cases, you?ll want to be careful, because you never know when it might go off."

That happens to me sometimes. You must just be very lucky.
