Alright, reply to Tuppy's Nintendo patent thread.

You'd need a MyNintendo/Club Nintendo account to do it.  You buy a WarpPipe Pass (WPP) for this to happen.  There are five different pass types: Coin, Super Mushroom, Fire Flower, and Starman.  The coin pass is obtained by registering that account.  That lets you use it for one game, two saves per game (considered your free trial).  Super Mushroom lets you use it for five games, two saves per game ($5 USD, counts for 10 points on CN).  Fire Flower lets you use it for 10 games, three saves per game ($10 USD, counts for 30 points on CN).  Raccoon lets you use it for 20 games, four saves per game ($20, counts for 50 points on CN).  Tanooki is the same cost as a new DS game ($35), but lets you use it on as many games as you want, gives you five slots per game and 100 points on CN.

Prices are definitely off, but it's a fantasy.  You can upgrade the pass, upgrading lets you keep the points from the first pass, adds on the points from the pass you just bought.  If you purchase a higher level pass, you can't purchase a lower level pass for more points.  This is done through the Shop Channel, I'd guess, as it'd be stupid to buy the pass card things at the store like the Wii Point Cards.

Each save state uses up memory, of course, but fear not!  It's SD card/external HD (if Nintendo would make one for the Wii) compatible with direct access to those ports.  You can manage memory visually just like in the data settings at the Wii Menu.  These saves would be transferable to the computer, except, of course, for games like Animal Crossing and if they made a Pokemon Colosseum thing for the Wii, that'd just be cheap.
