I found a nice program called Dia that makes diagrams, so I tried it out by making this.

If you can't figure it out easily enough, the boxes with colored text and white backgrounds are categories or groups while the boxes with colored background and white text are games themselves. Red is Mario, green is Luigi or Yoshi, dark yellow is Wario, brown is Donkey Kong.

Tell me if anything notable is missing or if there's any other issues. I won't include remakes, compilations, G&W games, or educational games. And no, just because "Super Mario Kart" contains "Super Mario" does not mean it should be linked to that section of the chart and so on. Just because a game like Smash Bros happens to include various Mario characters doesn't make it part of the Mario web in my opinion. I also think that the Mario&Sonic games aren't nearly an adequate reason to merge Sonic series into this diagram.

Some of the grouping/linking patterns in this might not entirely make the most sense, but it's good enough. Like linking Mario to Luigi only through Mario&Luigi even though Luigi was introduced back in the very first Mario games. I don't believe there's any better way to go about any of the ones I gave much thought at all to.

If it appears to cut off to you, you can either use a scrollbar at the bottom of the post or rightclick->view image

Oh, I forgot about it. Like Luigi's Mansion, it's the only game that primarily features a certain character.

...but is there anything it can even be linked to? D=

I'm just joking that the Mario Party series as it is already sticks out in that diagram as being a circle with many similar games all packed together on the same single group

Do the ones I listed count?
I don't know about them much myself, so I'm not really sure. I'll add them when I feel like it.

I guess, but Yoshi's Safari was the first game where Princess was given the name Peach in the US
