Upgrades screwing over people?

It seems like Nintendo is trying to screw over the people with unauthorized modifications with these updates, as my Wii just said something about the unauthorized modifications with the update, as it did last time, for the GH3 one I just got.  So, I can see where they're coming from, as I do not want AR users ruining wi-fi for us, especially in SSBB, BUT would this screw over people with the pimped out Wiis with the red LEDs and the black plastic?  And what about if it's possible to homebrew a channel for fun that will not affect gameplay?  Will their hard work go to waste, along with $250+?

Had to post this, been thinking about it for a week or two.

I dunno how painting your Wii will suddenly brick it through an update.

It won't.

The update mainly bricks Wii systems that have modchips installed, which are small chips placed on the motherboard of the Wii to allow homebrew, import games, pirated games, and various other things (Nintendo probably created the limit because modchips allow pirated games to be played). The update prevents the Wii from reading any non-Nintendo discs, like Action Replay. Playing these discs won't brick your Wii but rather will just show a disc read error.

Well I haven't done anything to my Wii, but when I first put in MP3, and it did the update, I kept getting a disk read error...

I had to send it to Nintendo for fixing...

The disc read error should ONLY happen if you put an Action Replay or a pirated game in.

Nope. I love my Wii to much to do anything to it. It wasn't the disk, because I even exchanged it for a new one. But then all my other games worked...

There is no Wii Action Replay for the wii therefore online cheating is not an issue and The GCN Action Replay couldn't go online due to obvious reasons.. It wasn't hurting anyone, there was no reason for Nintendo to lock it out.
