What's better for a murderer's personality to be in a story?

Insane, yet open (Sort of like Tell-Tale Heart sort of thing)
Shy, yet has a reason for killing
Insane, simply insane
Nervous and scared
Open, yet needs persuading to get things outof him/her
Angry at the world
Sorry for what he/she did
Insane Mastermind

Yeah, I'm writing a murder story, and I can't write the story without having a personality for the killer ^_^

Oh, and finally.

Should the killer be a He or a She? :O
