But can't that mean two things? It could mean what you said, but Mario has also appeared in all the Smash games up until now. There have been three Smash games at this point in time, and Mario is in all three.

Yes, I think it's just stating Ness has been in all three.. though it's a little sketchy-sounding.

Anyways, I doubt he'll be announced and will appear as a hidden character, like he has before.

Pichu hands down.  He's just a random and meaningless Pokemon they put in.  Not to mention he's the weakest character in Melee.  Ness is a star from Earthbound.   Who would want to be a rodent that damages itself?  :|

Plus, you have to remember that these updates have to be translated, and that Japan has words, like pronouns for unknown gender, that we don't have(like metroid).  Sakurai might have meant something different in the original language of the post, and that phrase was the best the translator could do to match Sakurai.

Ness hands down. He's just a star of some random and meaningless game they put in. Not to mention he sucks monkey balls in every Melee battle. Pichu so Fing cute and small and... a mini star. Who would wanna be some psycho kiddy freak? :|
