If anything will happen it's going to be World War III. The world is in so much conflict right now it seems the most logical prediction we can make.

The reason WWIII didn't happen in the Cold War was because of assured mutual destruction, and that would still stand today and in the future.  No ruler, no matter how cynical and evil the ruler is, would actually do something that would risk the total destruction of his or her own country, unless said ruler is an idiot.
