The Bible says not to let a rotten saying exceed from your lips.  There are many scriptures that point out that you don't want to speak anything that isn't up building.  If it's not something that is helpful and is used only to hurt then it's not worth saying.  I don't always follow this, but I try.  No one is perfect.
