What makes you happy?

What's something that makes you happy?  Maybe it's helping someone out as you pass by and lending a hand.. maybe it's seeing something innocent and wonderful happen, like a kid learning about something new to him or her.. maybe it's the tranquility of a beautiful day.  Maybe you get really excited about getting a video-game you were looking forward to, or discovering a new sound and being turned on to a band you've never heard of before...

Have certain things always made you happy..?

..perhaps certain things no longer make you happy...

...and maybe even certain things you used to dislike.. are now in your favor of happening?

Well.. all those things above and much more used to bring a smile to my face.. and a lot still do.. but it's so short-lived.  I don't enjoy things as much anymore.. not much of anything.  Blah blah blah "Dear NSider"/"emo" comments.. blah blah blah.. who cares about me or anyone else in the world for that matter anyways... just taking up space.

So.. what makes you happy.. etc. etc. etc....

Serving others to the best of my abilities, flirting, good food, God ,fine chocolate, licorice and having friends over.

Music that I enjoy, first and foremost. Sparkling water with lemon or lime. Discovering a particularly melodious progression. Seeing people's eyes light up with delight. Painting models. Formal wear. Jazz. A lot of things.

If I had to recall the happiest and most transcendental moments in memory, one would be lying on a slate beach in Alaska listening to waves and watching unobscured stars. Another would be lying on my bed last night listening to an owl hoo outside my window. Another would be a loving embrace on Windan Sea beach in La Jolla, when no one else was there. Another would be any band practice where there's that one or two minutes when everyone falls perfectly in tune and creates something amazing.

I think what I need is a vacation.  Working 6 days a week for over a year now and being almost completely shut off socially due to mid-shift hours.. is killing the real me.  I'm growing rather grouchy, impatient, and cold...

I never make time for myself, let alone anyone else, and now I'm hateful. *sigh*
