Sonic is by far more well-known.  Kirby is more well-known (or at least more reputable) in Japan but everywhere else it's Sonic.

Truthfully it's hard to say. Sonic's been losing popularity big time, and Kirby isn't that popular in the first place.

Sonic, you pretty much see him everywhere, you barely ever see kirby.
