I own 15 or so Lovebirds in a decent-sized aviary of sorts (it used to be a chicken coop)
About once a month, the birds will start laying eggs and the baby birds will hatch.
Everything's fine for the first week except that the birds get a little hungrier.

Then, all of a sudden the birds will start kicking the babies out of their "house" and they end up on the floor.
We try to put them back, but the birds just keep on kicking them out.
Then, in the next few days, I'll always find the baby bird dead on the floor, which is always a traumatizing sight.

Today I found one decapitated.
This is just turning into a cycle.
Birds lay eggs -> Birds hatch -> Birds grow -> Bird gets kicked out -> Bird gets killed.

Anyone know why this could be happening?

You birds are clearly having family related issues. I suggest you should just take the parents and kill them, just for starters.

Or take a second birdhouse and put the babies in there.

Actually the latter is what we were planning to do.

There's nothing lovable about lovebirds.  >:(

That's how birds teach their children to fly...out of necessity.  It's tough love to the EXTREME.

I only have 1 bird, and he's awesome. He loves me, climbs on my fingers, sometimes shoulders. To everyone else, he just bites or squawks at them.

Yeah I know they need to teach their babies how to fly, but i don't think they need to bite their heads off.

What kind of birds are they?

If they are chickens, just feed them so much that they can't move.

They probably ate it.

That show was pretty cool.

Too bad it took the Rugrats down with it.

They really shouldn't be called that.
