It's very simple right now. Not much. But it's Mario Kart, with a side-scrolling twist!

So far, it has:

- Mario, who's in a kart! :P
- Forward movement, with acceleration
- Backwards movement, but no acceleration since it's just like reverse
- Up and down movement
- Switching directions. (glitch where he changes to the left when facing right, but doesnt go back. gotta fix that. :P)

The controls go like this:

Left: If facing the right, you go into reverse. If facing left, you drive and accelerate and stuffs.
Right: If facing right, you drive. If facing left, you go into reverse.
Up: You go up a bit.
Down: You go down.
Space: Switches your direction, but like I said before, glitchy still. :P

Here's some screenies:

Mario's parked, how exciting!

"Let's-a-go!" And he's off!

Going the other way on the other side of the track!
I'm sure he'll want to be able to change directions once he's back at the beginning!

The blue is solids, while the dark blue is just...well it doesn't do anything.

Maybe you'll be seeing a Mario Kart game soon, if I don't drop this! :)

YEAH

Make better environments.
Need I really add more?

Ah, yes. Add more characters to the game, and make Rainbow Road a stage. Also, where'd you get the Kart sprite from?

Riosan

Looks boring. Make it look a lot better, fix any glitches, etc.

Looks boring because it's just kinda like a test. It won't look so bland in the future. :P

And I got the kart from The Spriter's Resource, I think.

No, I don't see it.

It's in "ML:SS-styled sprites" in the "Mario & Luigi Super Star Saga section."  ;)

I can't believe I forgot about that. :-[

But there aren't any "up" sprites. I assume you race to the right, then it goes to the start/finish line and loops?

Well, you drive to the left, or right, depending on where your facing.
It'll kinda be like this:

But with pipes and Monty Moles, other obstacles, and a the M&L 3D-ish sort of feel. And not so square-ish tracks. He'll get to the bottom right corner, then start going up, then press space and turn his direction to the left. Then keep riding until he gets to the top left corner. Then he goes down a bit, and changes his direction to the right again.
YEAH

It could just be a test (or I'd hope).  Maybe he'll make those objects invisible and then add the background.

Why is it that I'm the only one who can't figure out how to work the views?

I suspect you only spent like 20 minutes on that, tops? Or are you really slow with GML?

...or are you using the drag-n-drop method?

And honestly, you're better off with some sort of platformer rather than a game that doesn't evne make sense as a side-scroller.

If I can muster up the courage to do it, I'll be making a TF2-based 2d overhead view shooter where you're the HWG and you go around with Sasha shooting scouts trying to bat you.

the AI & the sprites will probably be the biggest issue.

Well, it didn't take very long. :P
And I'm using coding and a tiny bit of the drag-n-drop stuff.
