First off about Roy being a "clone"... His moveset looks pretty much the same but the the way the characters play are completely different. "Clone" just doesn't seem to fit the situation, it's more like two characters based loosely off the same frame, not verbatim copies... That being said, Roy is pretty much a Marth without everything that makes Marth good. I don't think either of them are coming back for Brawl. They are kind of bland-esque characters that nobody in the US knew about before SSBM. Also, as it was stated before, Sigurd would've replaced Roy if they had more time, which they do this time around. Now with Ike in Brawl it's obvious that Sakurai is trying to appeal to the US audience atleast a little bit by releasing a character in a popular FE game that was actually released in the US.

Bottom line: Marth and Roy are old, unknown in the US (without SSBM) and can really be replaced by any of the FE characters. The only thing that could keep Marth and Roy in is their current SSBM popularity. Marth has a much better chance of staying in than Roy, but both of them could easily not make it.

Also, I don't like them (especially Marth), getting sweet spotted at 50% and dying = not cool.
Sweet Jesus, you realize only 3 fire emblem titles made it into the US so far, right? and 1 of which is one of the most hated titles in the series, and another already has an Assist trophy rep, I think it's obvious Ike will be the only internationally known FE rep, because he's really the only international one that has popularity in japan ( where the majority of the fanbase is). It's obvious Uknown in the U.S means absolutely nothing to Sakurai, seeing as Lucas is in the darn game. And yes they can be replaced (especially Roy, who probably has) but Marth had a unique moveset, and influenced FE being brought to the Americas (along with roy), I highly doubt he'd Axe both of them.

Your bias is showing.

EDIT:

FYI Path Of Radiance is one of the worse selling titles in the series, in fact, none of the U.S titles sold particularly well.

The highest selling FE's are the following.

1. Fire Emblem 3 (Marth is the protagonist of this game, main character in FE1-FE3 timeline)
2. Fire Emblem 4( Sigurd protagonist of the majority of this game)
3. Fire Emblem 6 (Roy protagonist of this title, central character of FE6-FE7 timeline)

Then Roy has a good shot at being in...
since he's the protagonist of one of the popular FE games..... :D

Ok, ok, so some of that information was based off an old Sakurai interview...

"#171-180: In this update, Sakurai basically just says that since Smash Bros is popular throughout the world, he can't just use characters that are only popular in Japan. But then he brings up that it worked for the Fire Emblem characters. Once, a black man (yes, he said that) thanked Sakurai for creating Roy just for him.

Another typically cryptic response doesn't necessarily tell us if he will/won't include obscure Japanese characters, but given the general tone of his response, I'm leaning heavily towards no."
(Some of you might remember - http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=72642&highlight=interview+sakurai )

He obviously contradicted that statement by adding in Lucas who only appeared in Mother 3, but still, HE SAID IT.

I'm sticking with my original opinion of Roy will probably not make it and Marth would really only make it on his current SSBM popularity. Their being in the game isn't exactly crucial like some obvious other people. And of course, the probability of them being in it doesn't have anything to do with whether or not I want them in it (even though Marth is a unique character and somewhat fun to play, he's just pure hax).

If he obviously contradicted himself by adding lucas, why in the hell do you still go by it? Marth is more significant to his respective franchise then Lucas is, Marth is regarded as the icon of FE, if anyone's a shoe in, he's it.

not to mention Lucas is far more Obscure, Marth was a fan favorite playable character in the best selling gamecube game of all time... He's not like Takamaru or Lucuas, he's actually been in a popular international game, unlike Lucas.

You moved the conversation away from Roy completely. >>

Besides, why are you still arguing about this, I practically agreed with you in the last post because most of the points you came up with were much more thought out than mine. Anyway, enough. <<

I know, I just felt like ranting. :P I'm the biggest Marth fanboy there is, the reason I turned the debate away from Roy is because like you, I think he won't return.
