Question about LittleBigPlanet

As much as I am looking forward to this game simply because it's going to be fun, I don't understand all the hype over it.  Lighthearted "get to the exit" platformer, custom level designs, it's been done before.  It's not like I really care, but the game looks like I'm going to feel like I've played the game already in some other shape or form.  Why are people saying that it would be a huge system seller?  If it were for the Wii, I can vaguely see that, but for the PS3, not so much.  Thoughts?  :-\
