I doubt we'll see this released outside of Japan.  There isn't much of a target audience for it in NA or Europe/Australia.
It's a fighting game. How hard is it to find an audience for a a fighting game?

Plus, it's from the people who make Chibi-Robo. I'm sure they know how great their game would sell if it was released outside Japan.
The name is terrible though.
I doubt most Americans would want to buy a game called "Captain Rainbow".

I still don't even know what it's about.
Read my description. It's a fighting game about a host of a struggling TV show that is also a superhero traveling to an island populated by obscure Nintendo characters where all your dreams come true. Still don't know why he his fighting, though.

Plus, NOA is fantastic when it comes to Americanization. I'm sure they could make Captain Rainbow as badass as American Kirby.  :D
Fighting, like how?

Fighting like Streets of Rage? Or fighting like Smash/Street Fighter?
Streets of Rage, but the fighting style itself is more akin to Viewtiful Joe or Comix Zone.

Java

I just watched the trailer...

That was just odd.

One thing is, does that mean Birdo really is a guy?

It sounds like it to me  :O

Tupin

Nintendo of America says Birdo is a girl, but NCL still says that Birdo is a guy who likes to dress in women's clothing.

If this game is ever localized, they will have a female voice actor for her/him.

I was actually surprised Chibi Robo was released outside of Japan! :O

That game looked and felt just like all of the games that dont leave Japan that are very strange... (kuru kuru kurin would be an example)

Well, there's a market for niche import games, but Nintendo usually waits until there is a drought of games that appeal to a wide audience until they localize them. That's why Cubivore was localized. Chibi-Robo and Odama, another import game introduced very late in the GCNs life cycle, were both brought over to America to squeeze one last bit out of the GCN, right before the Wii launched.

There also was one last attempt at it earlier this year with a game called Radio Allergy, but it had to be canceled do to lack of interest. Unlike in America, Japan continues making games for consoles even after they stop making them. I think they made new games for the Dreamcast up until last year and actually still sell them in normal game stores, not like retro ones. Anyway, the game was canceled, even though there are a few reviews of it.

Oh, and when a game doesn't come to America, it some times goes to Europe, in the case of Kuru Kuru Kurin and Doshin the Giant.

All that said, I WILL get this game one way or another. If I have to import a European copy or even a Japanese copy, I will.

After watching the video, I'm pretty sure this will be kept within Japan Tuppy.  If it reaches our shores, it won't do well.  There isn't enough of a target market for it.  The only games so far that have managed to do well that are like this are the Katamari Damacey games.  And those are for the sheer randomness and addictive gameplay.  This doesn't really seem to have that.  Plus the name alone will drive many people away.

The whole gameplay revolves around rainbows, so I don't know if they can really change much...

Well, it's true. The name alone turned me off.... "Captain Rainbow"? Seriously Nintnedo you coudln't think of anything else to make this guy?
I know I don't play all hardcore games (Kirby and Pokemon I've played), but seriously, even I'm probably not going to touch this unless it's like the best downloadable game ever...which I highly doubt...since the gameplay looks fundamentally broken to begin with.
Birdo was supposed to be a guy in girls clothing, but NOA didn't want any consumer backlash, so they made it a girl X_X;;
