MGS4 wasn't that great of a game, compared to some of the other ones.

I always have played thorough a MGS game on it's lowest difficulity setting and then played it on a fairly harder setting with no radar. And I must say MGS4 wasn't all that great compared to MGS1, MGS2(maybe) and MGS3. It's still a good game through, I'll just list the things I didn't like about it. I guessI'll start off with the story and characters, and how it was presented.

The characters and cutscenes were presented very beatifully ad nice, the best graphics I have scene besides Crysis. But I wish the game had more original characters, the only ones I liked and boar any significance were Drebin and Sunny. Otherwise it was all fanservice. Which is a good thing, but if they had all that time to stuff down nostalgia down my throat, they could have stuffed down something original atleast. Something I really disliked were the Beauty Beast unit. The battles were boring, because it felt like the same thing over again(Besides Screaming Mantis, those cameos was nice). There personalities were dull to the point where the Outer Heaven and Zanzibar Mercenaries had more personality. :/ All were women captured and tortured and stuff blahblahblahblahblahblah, no back story or atleast colorful personalities. The NGF Foxhound and Dead Cell actually had backstories and the Cobra Unit and bosses of Portable Ops were more memorable then the B&B unit. I didn't have a problem with the number of returning characters, just wish there was more original ones or atleast one returning one from the MSX games. Atleast they showed some character development, like Johnny and Raiden. Which reminds something else I didn't like about it.

The game had only had about two people you could talk to Otacon and Naomi, it didn't feel right having too people to talk to, the codec conversations were kinda dull compared to the old ones you used to have with people like Paramedic, Campbell, and Sigint. They also had some uneeded plot devices, like how Vamp survived everything because of Nanomachines(which are the anwser for everything appearently, should of kept the whole supernatural thing, look at people like Psycho Mantis and The Sorrow) and that Liquid had been dead since Shadow Moses and Ocelot was faking the whole time. Of course there were times when they used plot devices like Johnny marrying Meryl, and scenes that were so awesome(The "heating chamber" scene, Big Boss's final salute, and Shadow Moses to name some).

That also reminds me how they screwed up some moments in the game for me like Johnny and Meryl proposing in the middle of the battle with the Frogs, should had used a different scene, and Big Boss's final salute(okay maybe I'm just a little nickpicky on this one) not having the MGS theme play at that scene or barely in the game at all kinda ruined the game's musical score for me. Well I still like it, like "Old Snake" and "Father and Son". Also the Ipod songs, which should have more songs online. Speaking of online it could had used something more custom. And been a little like MGSPO+. The PMC soldiers and generic battlefields are nice, but I would have liked playing as characters and soldiers in the MGS series as well as areas. Imagine a fight between KGB, Frogs, Genomes, Arsenal Tengus, in the Big Shell? Awesome. Maybe they will put something like that in a future installment(as in the MGS4 getting remade, like the other games or even DLC)

The envoirments are nice, the music is great, Online's fun, the story was decent. Just not what I expected(in terms of good and bad) :P It still beats Portable Ops, MG1, MG2, and maybe MGS2 through.

Wow, I think a lot of it is nitpicky. I don't think it is the best game, but it was phenomenal. As per the series, I'm not fully sure, but I appreciated this a lot more than MGS2, I just wish it were Multi-Platform (as in, 360), but oh well. Oh, and DLC would be cool....but I don't forsee it.

You'd need multiple discs for the 360 version (it takes up pretty much all of the space on a Blu-Ray disc...in fact stuff was left OUT of the game because of that), so don't ever expect a Xbox version unless you want massive loading times and the graphics taking a hit...sorry.
Definatly better than 2 or 3...
I think it's tied with MGS1 (only cuz MGS1 was so darn simple and intuitive at the same time).
Ah well, we could argue this for hours XD

i'm sorry, but your no longer allowed to play metal gear solid games.

dude, i played through the whole series like five times, and i think mgs4 tops the list(actually it ties it, metal gear solid one was so awesome)but my dad, who actually played mgs1 when it came out, thought it was flawless. i had no problems with the BnB core, and they didn't seem genaric at all. i just have one question to ask: what game were you playing?

To a certain extent, I have to agree with you. I just didn't get the same fun factor out of it. The big pain in the ass was the constant warfare; it spoiled the stealth motif and made it pretty much impossible to get through the game without triggering an Alert. And once an Alert was triggered, it was almost impossible to clear it without shooting your way through instead of being able to hide like in previous games. Not to mention I was only playing Naked Normal, which is the second-easiest difficulty level. :B

I didn't like the level design of Act II (though Laughing Octopus was fun, fun, fun), and aside from Eva finally starting to reveal some of the major plot details, all of Act III sucked majorly.

No, the game wasn't as bad as MGS2. However, it pales in comparison to the original and MGS3.

...MGS4? I played all 7 canon ones and the two Acid games.

I played on Solid Normal on my first play through.

I sorta hated how the game used Nanomachines as an explanation to everything.
But darn, I loved the REX and RAY fight. That was pure intercourse win.
Geckos are seriously the worst enemy in the game.

RPG's and the rail gun kill them rather easily X_X;;

Triforceman22

I love taking down the Geckoes with the rail gun at Shadow moses.
so epic.

But I usually get distracted by the kickass fight that's happening on the right side of the screen D:

So uh.
If Vamp's regenerating body was because of the nanomachines, how the hell does he walk on water?

hey look at me do my ballerina twirl oops i killed the little human guy lol

But seriously, railgun or tranqing their legs. The only point in the game where they're bad is right at the beginning before you have any of your stuff carried over from a previous game. Or if you're an idiot and play Solid Normal+ on your first playthrough.

Lol, what? I can't imagine the game having any difficulty even on your first playthrough playing on less than Solid Normal. I mean, even The Boss Extreme isn't that difficult. I got the Big Boss Emblem, like a week into owning the game, and that only took a couple days. Course, I haven't played the game on any higher difficulty than Liquid Easy since doing that back in June of last year, so maybe my memory isn't the most reliable, but seriously, your first playthrough should be on no lower than Solid Normal if you're familiar with the MGS series.
