'Tis true. Actually you can't go wrong with most classic rock.

If you are looking for something softer - The Beatles, Electric Light Orchestra, The Who (some of it is kinda hard), Eric Clapton, Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc.

For something harder - Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, The Clash, etc.
